Gibraltar
I got lucky when I was there and met 2 NZ guys who were trying to buy a cannon for their home town (via Hull in UK) and got a guided tour of the battery from the Minster of the Interior (or other such title) including crawling around through tunnels - didn't have to pay anything, got chauffer driven etc. Went diving too, but Morrocco is MUCH more exciting and I figure you are off there next!!!

Politically incorrect
Hey Merryn, Glad you having fun. The correct term is "Sex Workers" ..trust me!

Aussies in Paris
I sent you an email and forgot to mention that my friend and I got talking to an Aussie couple on the sidewalk on the Champs Elysees in Paris and discovered they grew up in Torquay! Now how small is this world?

Ooops, sorry...
Ooops, sorry about the dodgy accommodation recommendation but we don't recall coming across any brothels when we were there - perhaps we were back at the Hostal before the "ladies of the night" came out to trade. I guess it proves that we always immerse ourselves in the local culture and hang out where the locals do whenever we travel! Might be a good idea if you ignore any other accommodation recommendations we've given you??? Cheers from the Sheers.

Wot no skanks??
Merryn, you disappoint me. "Custard tarts" was promising, but alas not what I expected. Surely there is Euroskank to report back on?

Good photos
Seeing your pictures, especially the Monument of Discoveries certainly brought back memories of our trip to Portugal. When we were viewing the Monument, we also saw a preschool class on a field trip. "They were all in uniforms sitting in a circle eating their lunches. Little children are always a delight. And these didn't get in the way of our photos!

Ah Madrid!
Loved Madrid too. The Prado was a high light and must if you get time. We have a Velazquez (don't forget to make your z's sound like s's) which takes pride on our walls it's the Royal family portrait. They do this excellent thing of making a print actually look like an oil painting. Enjoying the blogs. Wow what a trip of life time!

Good wishes
Merryn, Seems you are having a wonderful time. We're sure the Prado was on your Madrid to do list. The "black Goyas" are spectacular. Best wishes for you conntinued travels.

random selection
I'm glad it's not just me ... I get picked at EVERY airport for drug/explosives checks and they tell me it's random! I think it has to do with carrying a back pack. if you just had a handbag, they'd leave you alone. I flew to Perth the other day and ducked back through security to go to the chemist and then got randomly selected a second time on my way back through :)

Jealous
Hey Charlie Glad to hear you're enjoying yourself. On the Kentucky Derby theme, I backed Sasssbee for you in the time honoured Goodwood. You owe me $20. Feel free to provide duty free gift of same value or grab Jessica Simpson's mobile number for me. On that note, how come there's been no skank updates? If you're going to Blog me, at least cover my personal interests. Stalker

Message from Francine + Simon
Hey there Merryn, as promised I've brought Francine to the library to view your weblog. Here is her message to you. Take care and be happy. Simon... "Hi Sweet, guess you're well and truly into the swing of travelling, it gets addictive after a while. At least the weather in LA is better than in Melbourne. Have you seen all the stars as you walk down Hollywood Bld? Glad you enjoyed Fiji. It's been years since I've seen Helen and Arthur. Waiting for postcards. Keep safe and happy. We're only at the other end of the computer. Love Francine."

Just recieved your first two Travel Blogs - glad to hear that you're having a good time. Francine has Laryngitis and has lost her voice (but is smiling), the dogs are cute but noisy and I'm busy working on Album #2 and also helping some vocalists with their albums. I promise that I'll get Francine to an internet cafe and will show her how to write you an email in the near future. Hope that the Snapper tasted nice. Simon Imagin
