Samcheok pensions Hi there! Found your blog post and was just curious where the pension you stayed at was and how far was it from the main attractions in Samcheok? I would greatly appreciate your reply! =)
Samcheok Pensions Hello,
I'm incredibly surprised that I remembered well-enough to find it. It was called Namakkan Pension (http://www.namakkan.com/). It was out in the countryside right next to the beach. The entire area is a bit spread out (between Samcheok, the cave, bicycle-rail thing, Penis Park, beach), but you can either take local buses or taxis to most of them. You can also get to the pension by local bus, but you have to walk maybe 10 minutes from the bus stop in a little village. Also, we got to Samcheok too late on the first day and the buses had stopped running, so we took a taxi. I will warn you that the taxi drivers in that area charge higher prices for people from outside Gangwon-do (no idea if it's legal or not, but they do it, even with having a Korean guy arguing with them).
When you first get off the bus or train (?) in Samcheok, go to the tourist info desk and ask for local bus schedules, and you'll be fine. That area is really beautiful, and I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to ask if you have any more questions!
Pushkar also has some more to offer Would like to add, Puppet Show, Rose gardens, Desert Camps (Royal Rajasthan Camp - Ours), Rural weeding, many french tourists, Malpua (Sweet dish) and much more. I'm also planning to start a Pushkar blog on my Camp resort website http://www.royalrajasthancampsandresorts.in/.
So if you want to write a post over there I would appreciate it. My site is currently under good level digital marketing, thus I'm looking for some blog writer, If interested just mail me at royalrajasthancamp.vch@gmail.com.

Loved this blog and photos Hi there Laur,
Just think this is almost 1 year since we were in Hawaii!! But I think even though the weather was too cold to much enjoy for someone like you who likes to be warm, it seems like Jeju was a beautiful trip and one I am so glad you were able to get to do. God bless Mrs. Eun (sp?) and her husband for hosting you on this!
Taiwan does seem like a wonderful city to visit So glad you had the nice long weekend to enjoy it and that you took the time to take lots of photos and write about it so we can share your joy, thank you!
Thank you! Thanks for your article. It's well written and drives home your points of Mannam being a cult. As a counselor, I've worked with many Westerners that have been exploited by cults in Korea. Trust is difficult to build after having had been burnt. I hope that you will find some great friends that will love you for being you.
Warmest regards,
Y

Your not alone I know a few people, including myself from all over Korea that are severing ties with Mannam. The way things are being handled is unfortuate.
YMCA A good step back to feeling like a valued, positive member of your Korean neighborhood would be to volunteer as part of the YMCA's English program for disadvantaged Korean children. It's only two months (October to December), and only once a week for an hour or so. You can help the child of an immigrant mother learn English in a setting that is more comfortable and welcoming for them than the typical Korean classroom. Just look for the post in the Daegu YMCA Facebook group.
Love these weekend excursions Very funny that the same weekend when you didn't say you went to the seaside park (HA) your baby sister was at a social event for adult toys and edible lotions with all these older ladies she works with. Very nicely put in your blog however for the G audiences.
you are wrong! Those photos were great, I can't see where you get that they weren't good. What a gorgeous hike, I am glad you went there and hope you get to go again
Pictures Yeah, those ones turned out alright, just the place was so much nicer than the pictures. And you can't really get the scale of the rocks and falls in the pictures.
Thank You Thanks for visiting The Gambia. Please try visiting up country, say Kaur, for instance. Ask for Korka Jallow. Life is completely a different exerience their, but you will learn true Gambian culture.
Upcountry Actually, I did travel upcountry, but it was at the end of my trip, so I never wrote a blog about it. It was one of my favorite experiences in The Gambia. We went to the Wassu stone circles and Janjanbureh. We saw monkeys and hippos, and the old slave-holding quarters. I would love to go back to The Gambia! If I get the chance, I'll definitely take another trip upcountry!
This was really a good blog!!! Hi Laura loora,
Although you had told us some parts of these travels, I really enjoyed the detail of this blog and learning about Buddhism. Always glad you try to get the max out of wherever you go so you won't have regrets about what you might have done. Not many people are like that. I do hope before you go home you feel like you understand more than 1% of the Korean you hear. It is just so valuable to know other languages. My only other one is medical language which really is not too too hard, but I would have loved to have some other foreign ones.
good luck As you said that korea is pretty homogeneous, they had little chance to come/get along with foreigners.
I think it\'s helpful for you to teach them your culture as well as the language.
Teach them that it\'s not well-mannered if they converse with each other in their own language in company with foreigner who can\'t understand it.
as for the place, I recommend \'불로동 고분단지\'- (Bull-Roh-Dong Goh-Boon-Dan-Jih) near Daegu airport.
it\'s a park not famous in Daegu. you can find clean, grassy, open (not so wide) and tranquil place there.
good luck.
I Concur Thank you for this succinct list of things you've learned here in Daegu, Korea. My family of 5 has been here almost a year and have had the exact same experience. Great insights!
From the other side of the reunion This trip with Laura and Jolene was wonderful. We saw so many beautiful sights, and had a lot of active fun. These young women did a great job of documenting our travels with their photography skills. They also were great traveling companions; always up for whatever was suggested or doing the well-researched and excellent suggesting. When we dropped off Laura for her flight back to Korea, we said goodby very briefly and as lightly and cheerfully as we could. However as we drove away, both Willis and I were teary, and then I started sobbing. Did not realize how much I would be sad saying goodbye to Laura for likely another year. As she said in her next blog about saying goodbye to all the good friends she made in Daegu, you can skype and it is all good but it is not the same as having fun and being together!!

nice blog, maybe the Koreans like Suncheon "Bay" a lot because there is so nothing - everywhere else is packed full of stuff...at least that is the outsider view!
As a college student I first studied abroad in Serrekunda, The Gambia, and I became even more fascinated by human diversity than I already had been. I was hooked on travel. Later, I studied abroad in Brno, Czech Republic. Next I lived in Daegu, South Korea while I taught English there. After two years back in my hometown, I'm abroad again-this time in Spain! ... full info
