…..to the zoo, Sunday morning, Kelly, my Grade 3 co-teacher, his wife, Liz & I out on our bikes at 8.30am. Kelly a ball of fun &, like me, stopping to look at EVERY thing on the way. Talking to a couple of men in their driveway with an incredibly noisy & dangerous looking machine hulling rice. Exposed belts & clouds of diesel fumes. They are happy for us to watch for a while..... …..we take a couple of wrong turns (my fault) but soon ask directions & get to the zoo by around 9.00am. Impressive except for a handful of remaining small, desolate concrete cages, very open, beautiful grounds, lakes, the canal, pagodas etc. Panda, tigers, a handful of antelopes & zebras. Squirrels, not that interesting to the Americans but I am captivated. Monkeys always
