Almost 34,000 people have backed a petition calling for action after 150 traders were ejected from Portobello Market and replaced by a chain store. The traders say it was promised they could return to Lipka's Arcade in the west London market once it had been "refurbished" by a developer. But the antique stalls were instead merged into a giant shop, now inhabited by fashion store All Saints. Marion Gettleson, who has run an antiques shop in the market for 50 years, said: "There are letters in which it was promised people could come back after work was done. That meant traders were willing to go quietly. "But when scaffolding was removed there was a massive, 10,000-square-foot All Saints in place of the stalls. "It is so utterly out of character with the neighbourhood it's breathtaking." Traders allege the development is improper because the developer said in his planning application that stallholders could return - something they say influenced the council's decision to give plans the green light. The final development is allegedly taller than was permitted under original plans, blocking a view to Notting Hill. Planning permission is being retrospectively sought for a fibreglass shop-front erected without authorisation. Kensington and Chelsea Council say no permission was needed to merge stalls. Among the 150 antiques traders, many of whom have now given up, was a woman in her 90s who had run a stall for several decades. Remaining traders say the changes to the arcade, undertaken by developer Warren Todd, threaten the character of one of London's top tourist attractions. There are already several All Saints stores in west London, including two in the nearby Westfield shopping centre.we at PETTYMARKET.COM support people at portobello market the best of london.

Wow! That is the most amazing hotel ever, I am well impressed with your hotel finding skills! I thought it looked special from the first photograph, and even more exceptional when your second photograph shows the true size of the place! Free chocolate sounds good :D

Blaaarg! World's germiest tourist attractions?!? Why would wanyone make a list like that? Imagine getting cooties from a rock. I'm glad you survived driving in Ireland, that roundabout does sound a nightmare to experience when you're just getting used to them. What was the near death experience though? Gorgeous pictures of the Rock of Cashel!

Wow! Denmore caves look astounding! You've taken some grand photos there. And it looks like you're going to have fish and chip withdrawals when you get home. Don't think I'll be able topost them.

Awww, sorry to hear you had such troubles with the buses. Doesn't sound like they have it with newcomers in mind. Odd considering it's a touristy thing. The teeny tiny house puts me in mind of 'batteries not included'.

Awwww, bless! The duck on the stone wall looks so sad :( Did you feel like falling asleep after managing an English Breakfast? I don't know how people manage to eat them first thing in the morning regularly. Must have given you plenty energy for a days exploring. Wray castle looks amazing!

You should hire locals to carry your luggage, it's what the English used to do when travelling abroad :) The Jekyll and Hyde pub looks cool! I think all the ones in England that were similar are slowly vanishing :( Did the toilets scream when you opened the door? I see your toilet obsession is in full swing again :D

"can't even spell the pizza I had" Hahahahahahaha. Genius! I wouldn't dare go in the Primark there, especially not on a Saturday. You're a braver person than I. Must be the most fussed over cat in London if it's the only one there! Must be a happy cat! London's full of random nice architecture around most corners :)

Yay for Yorkshire Puddings! I'm sad to hear that much of the displays in Shakespeare's Birthplace were replicas. Warwick does look amazing though, love your photo of the stone arch in the river.

WOW! The view from your hotel does look high up! That must have been a nightmare with the luggage! Love the Regent's Park photos, and your food photos make me hungry again! I've been to the Sherlock Holmes museum, it was pretty cool. I didn't notice those tiles on the underground station though.

YAY! You look so happy to be there! That's a great shot of you by the edge, were you not nervous? I really like the photo of the little red flowers amidst the stones, that must have stood out. The alpacas look strangely at home at such a height. And so lucky to live in such a place! And the veggie enchiladas are making me hungry. Mmmm.

Ooooh, the hummingbirds are so pretty. How close did you manage to get to them? The butterflies are very colourful too. And such beautiful photos of waterfalls. I love waterfalls, I have never seen any as spectacular as them though. They must have roared.

Wow. Macchu Picchu looks incredible with the clouds/mists all around. They are such fantastic photos of such incredible views, I am so jealous! It looks kinda weird with all the grass topped stone steps. I love the shot framed through the doorway, and all the nooks and crannies you managed to photograph. Am very impressed by the butterfly photo, you must have been very careful not to spook it. The inca Kola looks an unappetising colour, but the pasta does look good.
