Still beautiful even if weather not perfect. Looks just like House Hunters Internstional. What are your apartments like? When were most of these structures built? We should be ashamed at how we just abandon structures in the U.S. Of course must not built to survive centuries like these.Fred's lunch sounded like the bible story of the fishes and loaves. Did not feed the multitudes.
The apartments almost invariably are refurbished older buildings. The one we are in now at Lake Maggiore the owner thinks is 100 years old. We think it is a good deal older. The space she developed is excellent, perhaps the best we have bee n in. Very spacious and modern. You are correct, they build differently here and also repair rather than replacing. We went to a preseason game before leaving for the trip and sat next to a couple visiting from Switzerland. They could not understand why we were tearing down the current stadium to build a new one. After several confused questions we finally said "it's because this is America". Okay, then they understood.
Can't believe ya did not have a beer in every tent! When you get to lake Garda which is just above Verona you will find my presence there. I worked there summers when I lived in Verona and Vicenza . In Verona go to the Roman arena. We went to the opera there , drank wine and ate poninas and waited for the fat lady to sing. Between Verona and Vicenza is Romeo & Juliette's castles at montecchio maggipre which is 2 km from Alta ceccato where I lived in the yellow / biege apartment bldg. behind the Alta ceccato air compressor factory. Have lunch at the castle.
Yes Tim, we watched the game. First half not so great but sure beat them in the second. Perhaps the season will not be so bad. Now if Georgia can beat Alabama, the world will be right.
I noticed that the drive on the autobahn was not under the heading of relaxing drive. I bet ya'll are getting good at converting things to metric. I don't remember a lot of things but I do remember Yugoslavia. Don't know if I spelled that c orrectly.I really like the map that shows where you are.So glad you could see the Falcons. We couldn't see the Dawgs in Canada but I guess you had to pay for it and you know Ricky.
Finally, Tim forwarded all e-mails to me. I have spent the last hour on a great trip through Europe. So many beautiful and historic sites. Makes me feel overwhelmed and so "small'. These places and these people have survived so much. Tim is enjoying all the great architecture. I think he was probably helping build the place that took 105 years to complete.Fred, you certainly did a lot of research. I hope you continue to enjoy your trip and that it is all you had hoped it would be
Most amazing pictures--HP, you are getting to be quite a photographer--my favorites two pictures--the one of "Bird" and the one of the photographer!! Continue to have a wonderful time!!
How did you get a ponytail Fred? Do they have hair implants or are you wearing a wig?? I knew Sheila would take her shirt off somewhere & show off??. What's with the " wish you were here" ?? You didn't ask me to go??
