About seeing Edgar Nothing would be better. Keep me informed of the trip. I have some other commitments so I need to know times, dates.
Thanks Armida,

LIKE IT!! Dad,
I still like the pics you put on this site. I think every picture shows a different experience you have, so that shows you're having a great time iver there!!
Tay Ninh Kent,
I've been enjoying your travel blog, even though I live in Saigon. I'm a frequent visitor to Tay Ninh and, as you know, my novel, "Tears of Tay Ninh" is set there and along the Cambodian border in 1966. You provided me with a little known fact, and that is General The is buried on Nui Ba Den -- Black Lady's Mountain. Thank you for that. Tay Ninh is a magical and a mystical place. It's one of my favorite places to go when I need to get away from the hussle and bustle of Saigon. The people in Tay Ninh are extremely friendly and helpful. Best to you on your journey through Viet Nam. Thomas
Thanks for the remarks about the blog Yes it got quite cold in Hanoi. Really, to cold for comfort for a few days. I noticed that at one time on my computer it gives the temperture of Garfield, Hanoi, HCMC, Danang and Hue. At one time Garfield and Hanoi was the same, 59 F. Now, we have more normal weather and it is very pleasant. Trang called me yesterday and said HCMC is very pleasant too. In Feb. it gets very cold in Hanoi and no one but the fancy hotels has any heat, so we freeze. By that time I will be back in Garfield enjoying Kansas weather from a warm home.
Love the photography journal... Hi Kent,
Glad to see Loanie again and really love all the great pics of kids. You have a real knack at capturing many sweet faces. Love that unusual tree. Obviously it is cold there now - what is the season?
Incidentally, the note from your Panama son, Edgar reminded me that you should be going to see him during spring break this March. This will be my 8th trip and would be 9 for Ralph but he suggested I take a couple of our grands in his place. I am eager to see Edgar again - along with Diana and Yessica who were here too.
Sure proud of you!
Library visit for KARL Let's make sure we get school and library visits while in the more rural reaches of Vietnam in Oct of 2010 and with the big group in March of 2011. Education and literacy are so important to our countries future together. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic Hi Kent, thank you for giving us an update on what your are doing. This is a fantastic undertaking you are doing. It definitely is working by the faces on the children. Send pictures of the mountains. Looking forward to hearing more about your trip and your achieving your goals.....Donna
What an exciting trip! Looks like you are getting plenty of mileage out of this trip! We will miss you at the Larned Rotary Club meeting this evening. And you will miss the turkey dinner we are having!
Great Reading Kent, thanks so much for sharing this. Ken has spoken of Vung Tau often and I know he will enjoy reading this and seeing your photos. It's good to see you, Sarah and Trang, too!
Con Dao Kent, I was in Con Dao last Tet, my second visit to the island, and it remains one of my favorite getaways. I think it's Vietnam's largest national park, including the vast marine sanctuary. There are animal and plant species there that have not been found anywhere else in the world. Next time I'll explore some of the outlying islands, which I have not done yet. The prisons are pretty grim but stark reminders of our human capacity to do each other harm, in the most torturous and vile ways, and those practices continue even today. Thanks for the blog update and the photos.
A good teaser! Hi Kent,
Now that I live 20 meters away from Bondi beach in Sydney Australia, probably one of the most famous surf beach in the world, I find it really hard to get excited about other beaches. However I am longing to return to Vietnam but by the look of it, this is not going to happen before 2011, if it happens...
How are you working around the new 3 months visa rules?
Take care,
Cheers
Kristine
Thank you Thank you for this interesting blog. I visited Vung Tau beach in 1993 so things have changed now. I also plan to visit Con Dao islands next year, so your information and photos are much helpful to me.
Vung Tau Thanks for the update on your trip...beach scenes are neat, and I especially enjoy seeing Huan, Trang, and Sarah. They're taking good care of her!
In Da Nang I have been a missionary in China for the past 21 years and am now also focusing on Laos and Vietnam. I meet a young man from the VCM in China. This year he invited me to meet the president and vice president of the VCM here in Da Nang. I just had a great morning with them and tomorrow his son Doc is taking me into the mountains to see some of the needs their church have. I would love to get Stanly's states side phone number and call him once I get back from Vietnam on the 17th. Anyways, if there is some how I could get his number that would be great.
Where are the cats? In 2002, my wife and I visited the Springfield Plantation. It was certainly unique - we enjoyed the visit and the tour provided by the late Mr. Le Salle. Without getting into his alleged personal life issues, he should be commended for the work he did to preserve the plantation. As we were leaving the house, we noticed a couple of cats near the side of the house and as we approached them to give some pets, more and more and more cats started to emerge from under the house. Eventually, there were approximately 200 cats, yes at least 200 started to gather around us - ranging from 4-5 weeks to full grown. The very young ones loved to lick my wife's toes - in sandals. Mr. Le Salle said that he was trying to feed them the best he could but money was becoming a problem. After we asked about neutering, he said he simply could not afford it at that time - way too many cats. Are the cats still around the plantation?? If not, does anyone know what happened to them??
Thanx
what a beautiful view! Dad ,
this post is one of the best ( talking about the view), the images are amazing and I wish I could see a church like that here in David. In Panama we do have old churches with lots of history, but I really haven't had the chance to go there.
Thanks once again for sharing with me your awesome trip!
Edgar
OCT. 25 Hi Kent,
Your pictures and comments are rewarding. I am taking a return trip to Vietnam through your story. The vids make it so real, but your narrative is illuminating too. It's chilly and rainy here in Larned, but I know it is quite pleasant and beautiful there....Anita
