my dream life too for Nepal Hi MK, i am a Chinese from South Asia. it's so nice to read your life's in Nepal here....
I have been to Nepal long time ago, i stay for arround 2 months there in Katmandu. i love all my Nepali friends there as they all are so pure & kind.
I found "Samjana" as my Nepali name from a English to Nepali dictionary which i use it as remembering of the wonderful Memory in Nepal & my soul's plan.
Now i am planning to go back to Nepal & live a long life there... may be think to continue to open a Chinese Learning Centre like what am doing here now & possible to get the business visa.

Katmandu visit I plan to go to Katmandu. What are the areas where I can get nice and safe entertainment. Can you name some good clubs where nice joints and companions are available.
I loved Bangkok too I had a great time in Bangkok too, I can't wait to take my family back there. On the other hand I had a great time there on my own too (no I didn't get up to anything naughty)
Traveling on your own allows you to do whatever you want when you want. This can be great no-matter how aligned you may be with your traveling companion.
Bad but not that bad The village is some what dead specially now that the economy has gone south but if you do your research yes you can find some decent food at la Parguera. A small joint called El Cayo at the end of town serves only lunch as well as Agua Azul. For breakfast you are indeed in trouble now that the local supermarket has closed along with many business due to the new town ordinance which have become wide spread under the new political party with is spear heading a USA only option as the next political alternative to being saved.
Most healthy food locations are out of the way in the mountains, Mayaguez, and Rincon. If you travel to the town of Lajas you will find a few panaderias which have good cheap breakfast. As for diving, West divers and Taino divers in Rincon are excellent dive groups. Do your home work before heading south; plenty of web sites about laParguera. Good luck to all on your next adventure
Ciao HI Michelle,
I remember being in Old San Juan and going to a restaurant that was there forever. Maybe it still is.
If you are looking for a really great country to explore, I would recommend you try Costa Rica next time you ant to go south of the border. It's windy, chilly and raining here so enjoy the sun and sea.
Nick is home, very happy at Drew and life is good.
Best to you for a belated Thanksgiving.
Carolyn
great attitude I am so happy to finally find a travel journal with some incite into what a real adventure experience is like. I am headed down to puerto rico in december and plan on camping, staying in a hostel in rincon (the only hostel on the island as far as i can tell), and maybe a couple nights in a guest house if i can afford it. I am looking forward to your next entries! I hope things get better for you and you find some buried treasure or atleast a really good organic food shop
Time to make it a state! Sounds like P.R. is ready to join the U.S.! I say let Sarah or G.W. Bush run it. They both need something to keep them occupied and challenged.
green with envy Hi Michelle,
As one of your regular email groupies, I have to say I'm enjoying your holiday to Vancouver, especially the descriptiions of the great meals you have.
Being a woman of a 'certain age' with the padding to prove it, the type and quantity of food you get to eat not only makes my mouth water, but also green with envy! Are you sure you're not making it up? How about some pics to prove it ;)
It sounds heavenly shopping in those lovely boutiques with massages to boot......a perfect girlfriends holiday.
Enjoy.
Regards,
Jan
Very patronizing and very white commentary on Nepalese life. I guess this is the new colonialism. The white foreign expert telling the brown people how to live their life.
Another adventure - I can't wait! Hi Michelle,
I was thrilled to see another travel blog from you in my inbox.
I enjoyed living vicariously through you on your Kathmandu adventure and really missed the updates when you got back to the States.
Will look forward to your journeying to South Africa with you now - have never been there and probably wouldn't be game to go to the areas that you'll be visiting.....so once again, can't wait to hear all your stories.
Regards,
Jan
Hope, change & platitudes we can believe in! Yes, I cried as well when Obama won the election and am still sweeping up the confetti from all of the corners of my heart.
Finally, a president who doesn't look like all of the other ones.
At first I was concerned that he wasn't black enough for me, but then I discovered that he was from Chicago and has been shaking down "the man", supporting Freddy Mac and Fanny May, and pressuring banks to dispense with established lending procedures and make loans to undocumented aliens and people who had no actual ability to repay, so I knew he's the man for me! Now I don't have to worry about paying my mortgage or filling my oil tank anymore; if I support him, he'll support me!
Some say communism is a perpetual failure, but there is so much wealth in this country that I think Obama can spread it around at least until I'm ready to retire- and then someone else can pick up the tab! I just hope those rich people don't get smart, renounce their citizenship and take their money to places like Ireland which offer lower tax rates and free healthcare too! Some also say that absolute power corrupts absolutely, but I think we can trust the Democrats with a super-majority; at least as much as I can trust my dog with my sandwich!
Somehow,I ended up reading your blog. Thank you so much for sharing your such wonderful moments in Kathmandu. We have nothing except innocent smile. ...would be appreciated if you publish your research.
very very thanks for your beautifull writting.
i know that the prostitution is everywhere in the world. perhaps in nepal, the prostitution is lesser than places in the world, for examble in usa.
a nepali women is cheeper than usa women according to usa dollars for examble. i think that two situation's different is this.but acording to Rs, she is same cost as in usa. for examble a sex worker is ear 5 dinner per nigth in usa and in nepal.
i'm from turkey, and i want to travel to nepal. i want to research how the people live in nepal and why the nepali is poor? what is the missing for they to be hapy? realy what is it?
thanks again.
Black people I laughed when reading the reactions Sita had about black people! I am african and I live in Kathmandu, and everyday people are staring at me!!
It's sad because it seems that all they know about Africa is negative:war, hunger, misery, HIV, etc...
It's even worse when I go to some places where people don't have TV, so they've never seen someone with a dark skin!
But what I find funny is that some Nepali have very dark skin!Especially in the low lands, but still, they are always staring at me!! ke garne!
I was in Bangkok just a few days before you - wish we could have coordinated our schedules to meet up. Maybe next time! I'm sorry I missed you during my (very hectic) last few days in Kathmandu, but perhaps now that we're both stateside, our paths will cross again. Good luck in North Carolina! And keep posting.
Loving Thailand Wait till you try the Northern part of Thailand. Fresher fruits and vegies, less polution etc, etc. Am in Chaing Mai at present and loving it. See our blog. mytb.org/underway
% to high I think your percentage is a little to high on the Bar and Handbag comment. There are plenty of students who care about world events (just look at all those chalk protest over campus) or other issues than going out to Bars. Just look at the comments in the Daily Campus or the different organizations on Campus. Now if it's the end of the week maybe 90% is correct, if it was the end of finals, some Frat or dorm was having a party, or it was Spring Weekend. I think that it's more an even split though.
Thanks! I don't know how I got into your blog but I do know that Google showed me into the first page where you were managing a sex-ed Q&A in Nepal. I was surprised myself that nineteen year olds asked you such a variety of questions. (I loved the moment when they asked about your own sexual habits! It's so Nepali). Then I read almost all the pages afterwards, because it is always a new perspective into my country when explained by a foreigner, until I came to this last one. Your didi's comments, the taxi drivers' reactions and the questions your participants asked made me laugh, provoked further questions in me and importantly, made me learn a bit about about my country. Thank you Michelle. Wish you all the best.
why not "men as followers"? Aren't you just so tired of talking about making women into leaders? My friends here in the UAE tell me that women are very much in charge and prefer to rule from above the glass ceiling rather than fighting from below. In the conversation of who leads and who follows, isn't time to move on???
