This tiny principality is located in central Europe, between Austria and Switzerland. Vaduz is the capital of this Alpine "dwarf". The population is only some 35,000, but the quality of life is one of the highest in the world. It is the smallest German-speaking country in the world. It is also one of only two countries in the world that are doubly landlocked, meaning that all surrounding countries are also landlocked (the other country is Uzbekistan). Liechtenstein is a tourist (mostly winter sports) and banking center. A little town with less than 15,000 people, Gmunden is a tranquil resort in Upper Austria. It is situated next to lake Traunsee and is surrounded by high mountains. Another interesting stop might be the ceramic factory producing Gmunden Keramik. The factory boasts of 300 years of successful business. You may also take a trip on the Gisela, the oldest coal-fired paddle steamer in the world. This 52-meter (170-foot) long vessel was built in Vienna, then taken apart and transported to the Traunsee. There, it was reassembled for its first voyage in 1872. It still ploughs through the waters of the Traunsee. The ... read more

Roman Orange was founded in 35 BC. It has probably the most impressive Roman theater in Europe. The theater is over 2,000 years old and can hold 10,000 spectators. Today, the theater hosts a well-known international opera festival, Chorégies d'Orange. Many famous opera singers have performed here. The Triumphal Arch of Orange is believed to date back to the time of Augustus or Tiberius, although some say it dates much later, perhaps to Severan. The theater and the arch are listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. ... read more
