Well my 3 weeks in The Falklands has flown by! I've had such a brilliant time, but didn't get to do half the things i wanted to~mainly due to the weather, the herc ride i was hoping to get on got cancelled twice, and the trip over to sea lion island got cancelled due to the choper being U/S! I was gutted about that as i really wanted to see the Elephant Seals~maybe next time...... We ended up going to Stanley instead, and had a walk to Cape Pembroke Lighthouse, and had a look at the memorial of the Atlantic Conveyer. Also we had a poke around the remains of an Argie Helicopter, not far from Mount Kent. I was reluctant to pack my bags, many people who still had a few months to go ... read more

We stopped on the way to Goose Green to have a look at the graves of the Argentine soldiers at Darwin cemetery. The weather has eased up a bit by now but it was still really cold. Many of the graves were unknown soldiers of Argentina, and there were touching wreaths placed weeks earlier, one from Prince Edward when he was over for the 25th anniversary. Onto Goose Green and the weather was howling. I walked down to the H. Jones memorial, but only had time for a quick glimpse as the wind and weather was really bad. I couldn’t help thinking how the hell they managed in ’82 spending weeks out in weather like this; I was out there for a matter of minutes and couldn’t wait to get back in the wagon to ... read more

After arriving on the Friday, I was asked if I’d like to join a few others on a trip to Ajax bay and San Carlos the following day. Only being here for 3 weeks, I jumped at the chance, and 9am the next morning 5 of us set off in a land rover to make our way to the other side of the islands. People weren’t exaggerating about the roads here, and most of the journey was a dirt track, and given the snowfall that had happened this morning, we took it slowly. (Not that going fast was an option with the maximum speed limit being 40 mph!) As we neared San Carlos (and only passing one other vehicle on the way) we found a perfect photo opportunity of the bay. We jumped out the ... read more

Well i'm just having my last cup of tea, and popping to boots for some ear plugs (hoping i might get some sleep in the flight!) setting off down to Brize at 2pm, and hope that the weather won't be too bad what with all the recent rain and floods. Due to fly at midnight tonight, so have plenty of books to read to keep me occupied, though i still think i'll be bored, its always the waiting to get there that drags isn't it? Should land at MPA at 13.30 Falklands time (its 5 hours behind over there). Will hopefully send next blog from the chilly South Atlantic! ... read more
