It was another great weekend (July 22-24) for us and a chance for me to visit another part of Germany that I had not been to before. This time it was Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Kate had been there before on a work related matter but this time it was much more pleasant experience. We went down to Garmisch to attend a marriage enrichment seminar put on by the army’s chaplain office here in Ansbach. The seminar was held at the brand new military R&R hotel (Edelweiss Lodge & Resort) located in Garmisch. Beautiful mountains and meadows surround the Edelweiss Resort. The room, facilities [View Full Entry]

Weekend Photos  Europe » Germany
Here are some photos that were taken the last two weekends. They are odds and ends shots with no real particular story. Well, Maybe, a short one or two. I figure Alex & Maggie would enjoy seeing our little friend down the street. The first couple of photos were taken in Spalt, Germany about 25 miles West of Ansbach. Bruce and I did a 10Km Volkswandertage (people wandering) walk and it was great. A beautiful walk though a lovely village, through wheat, corn and hop fields and into some beautiful dense forests. I've also included a couple shots of our walk [View Full Entry]

On Monday, July 11th, Kate had to go to the army hospital in Wurzburg for a meeting. Since it was only going to be a couple hours I decided to tag along and bring my camera. I'm sure glad I did. Although we had been to Wurzburg a few times before it was only going to and from the hospital. This was an opportunity to spend a little time in the town. Some historical stuff: Wurzburg has been populated for a long, long time as an easy-to-ford part of the Main river under an easy-to-defend hill. Around 686 A.D. three monks [View Full Entry]

This last weekend (4th of July) Kate and I had the opportunity to travel to Berlin. Kate had a few days left on her Eurail pass to use before it expired this month and the cost of a roundtrip train ticket for me was fairly reasonable, so off we went to Berlin. The train system in Germany is reliable, fairly comfortable, and almost always brings you right into the center of the city. In the case of Berlin, we arrived at the Zoo Station only a block away from the hotel we were staying. I was able to find an excellent [View Full Entry]
