I truly admire the work you're doing. It looks painful and fun all at the same time. This environment work is a necessity to keeping life balanced. Thanks, and awesome pics as always. btw, I will call ya one of these day, i'm just a slacker. take care

these photos are beautiful--i can't believe that's death valley! i don't envy the grueling field day, though. well. maybe a little.

i can't belive your still at it!
You must secretly enjoy the heat! You battle heat and thirst, while I battle inner city teens. This summer I'm a commuting crew leader for the SCA. I have 2.5 weeks left, then I'm moving to Missoula, Mt to get a MS in forestry. How long will you be in Death Valley?

Farther Sun & Holey Boast
Nice piece of writin', young feller. After reading it I feel like a Connecticut drawing room pantywaist for whining about the current Cascadian heatwave (105 for the 3rd day in a row!).

i love your writing. thanks for keeping us up to date. btw, it has been hovering near 100 F the last week or so, so i feel the heat, too. not as hot as you are, but we're all in hell.

comments make me fuzzy all over
Not sure who comment #2 is by, but hey I'll risk a trade for a couple weeks. As for you other two, I know who you are and where you live. Watch out. I will be back soon. Sorry to make you miss the desert, Eric, but it and a swamp-cooled government apartment are here, when ever you feel like visiting. Bob, AKA sasquatch, that my friend, is nonetheless than a Coyote Melon, a native species, in fact, also known as Cucurbita palmata. Not the strangest thing I have found...that would be something far different that comes deep in the depths of my mind when faced only with my thoughts, the starkness and silence of the desert, and a torpid history... I will not elaborate here, but wair for yet another post. I quit, Steve

Desert solitaire
Awesome photos--why should you restrain yourself from snapping thousands more? Is that a watermelon?--and is it the oddest thing you've found there?

My baby's future tax burden is rising so you can soliloquize solitude and lust carnivorously after the beasts that made your evolution possible? stop the cerebralcide, free the death valley 0

Hey there buddy, well while your drinking and shooting your way to immortality we forest dwellers are digging out from the great white dump. Its true that gods shit don't stink but it sure is cold. Send that burning car this way so i can make some breakfast.

better you than I
Well Steve, Im glad you got that death valley job, i just hope you don't loose your mind doing it! it looks amazing there. its snowing here in PA. im applying to grad schools and moving to Pittsburgh soon. It really seem like we are working in two different realities, or maybe Death Valley is just its own reality apart from everything else! Yay for Obama! I bet Roy Bridgeman is so pumped!

Bleakness
There is something to be said it seems about finding the ultimate surrounding for self-exploration. Its always fascinating to push the mind and body and see what one can get away with. Sounds like the thrumming of life, maybe as expansive and quiet as it is, is syncing with your own motor. It almost seems inevitable that you will realize everything about yourself if you wanted to focus thought on it or not. Most people do not get that chance.
