Why the fuss?
A gent with a machine gun discouraging this photo? Did he perchance think you were photographing him?

Why the fuss?
I don’t think so - I was about 100 metres away.

Al-Attarine Madrasa

Gorgeous photos...
Loved this blog. But I kept skipping ahead to find out what happened with Mohammed and the taxi driver!?! You can't leave us hanging :)

Mohammed and the taxi driver
He never came back to get his money. So I suppose that’s one up for us, which feels like a real rarity in Morocco! I’ll add something to our last Morocco post - can’t leave my vast array of readers hanging (did I mention that not even our kids ever read any of our blogs ….). Sigh.

Atlantic Coast beach

Assumptions we make
We were on this sandy beach in April and it was deserted... we assumed going to the beach wasn't a popular pastime in Tangiers. The old adage 'never assume' and asses is probably right :)

Spanish Dave
Thanks for the laugh... an Aussie translating Moroccan Spanish into English to a semi-South American! Love it :) How amazingly beautiful is Chefchaouen? It was one of my favourites. We got a few different stories of why the houses were blue; but both our guides swore by the fact that a certain type of blue limewash is an insect repellent, and they were unimpressed with the people who used 'modern' blue paint. I loved that you have taken a photo of the same village baker we did, on our trip in 2019 :)

Chefchaouen
We’d heard from someone else about the blue being an insect repellent, so not quite sure what to believe about the origin of the whole blue thing. Great place, so thanks again for pointing us to it.

Fes
The souks of Fes are amazing. We had a marvelous lunch in a coffee house. Morocco is experienced through all of the senses.

Fes and the desert
Thanks for reading. Yes we too found the souks of Fes fascinating. Glad you were so much more sensible than us and went out into the desert in October. I’m not sure what we were thinking really. Anyway it was still a wonderful experience which we will no doubt look back on and laugh.

It's hot in the tent tonight
Lying on wet towels.... that says it all. Don't kill anyone. Hopefully, you'll have air soon. We were there in October and it was much more comfortable.

Chefchaouen
Yes, a very very interesting country, and with a culture so so different to Europe, which is only 20 or so kms away. Amazing. Thanks for reading.

Tangier
We spent two weeks in Morocco but didn't make it to Tangier. Thanks for taking us along with you.

Tangiers
Interesting melting pot certainly. Felt like it was stuck in a bit of a warp between Morocco and Europe.

Hacked Booking.com...
I recently made a reservation through Booking.com. When I didn't get a confirmation message, I called the hotel to see if I had a reservation. I didn't so made one directly. Then I called my credit card issuer, who confirmed that I had been charged for a night at the hotel. I immediately reported this as a fraudulent charge which they will remove. I will likely use another hotel reservation company in the future.

Booking.com
We’ve now had two really bad experiences which has really put us off them, so now we tend to book direct whenever we can. We even found a Facebook group called “unhappy booking.com customers” and it’s got lot of followers. The main complaint seems to be getting refunds even when they’re completely warranted, and we can certainly sympathise. It took us 114 emails and five months to get a promised refund last year. And the lack of communication about the hack was very alarming. They apparently promised to contact all affected customers, but the. back tracked on that because they were worried about the adverse publicity. Grrr.

Blue...
When visiting Tunisia, we were told that doors and windows were painted blue to keep the flies out.

Does it work?

Africa!
We only had a day in Tangier and we both wished we could have spent another day or two. We'd already been in the country a while when we got there though...it would be a pretty full-on first introduction to Morocco, especially arriving at night. Looking forward to your further explorations :)

Tangier
Interesting place. Somehow feels half Moroccan, half European.
