hi simon. well done you. you've covered a lot of ground and seen plenty of things [unlike chris who is now beach bumming it indefinately!] you'll be glad to know you're about £700 better of as we've clearted chris's debt to you. thank you very much for helping him out. i cant believe you'll be back together again in a few weeks, thats if chris doesnt island hop and go too far east and lose his way back! how was the footy game? probably makes our footballers look like a group of pansys! new zealand will be glorious im sure and hopefullya little cheaper. beautiful walking country. are you doing L of the R's bit? not too burnt i hope? and probably skin and bone if you're living off bread and jam, as chris informs me! enjoy the rest of your solo tour then it will be back to your baby sitting duties!!! take care love from us all jackie

Wipe Out?
Hey Si, do you mean to tell me you learnt nothing from those two surfing lessons at Inch Beach, County Kerry that cost an arm and a leg a couple of years ago!! Is it really a case of 'check out the pomme fallin off his board'!!!! Sounds great fun whatever. Whats with the new image are you going to get back here with dubious facial hair and dreadlocks or is it just a surfing phase? Anyway great to read your blog, enjoy the rest of Sydney, have a great flight over to New Zealand I'm sure you will have a fab time there too - oh by the way don't even think of bungee jumping - didn't you know that you have to have written parental consent nowadays!! If you should get round that loophole tell me about it after you've done it OK! Love you loads Mum x x

Greetings from "Chirk"
Hi Si, thanks for the Email good to hear of your progress it all sounds such a great trip. We enjoyed the latest blog you have packed such a lot into such a short time and Chris continues to entertain! Shame about the cost of a tinny (what a good job that you are a strict "T" totaler)!!!A good excuse to practice being one anyway. As you can see from the title we are out on the maden trip in the caravan we are camped near Chirk Castle, the weather has been very kind to us (for March that is) sunny days buy cooooold nights, We fulfilled a long standing ambition yesterday by walking over the Aquaduct (can't spell it's name) and through the long tunnel today, not in your league we know but we enjoyed it. The trial trip has proved very successful and we managed to entertain your Mum & Dad together with Mike & Cal to dinner this evening. Mike and Cal slept in the awning last night but it proved too chilly to brave a second night, so like true "wimps" they have all gone home and left us to our owm devices. We look forward to the next installment best wishes for now N&G XX

..... Finally!!
Well g'day Si we were beginning to think you had gone walkabout! Tis good to hear from you with some actual news! What a great week you have had by the sounds of it. We loved the pics of you in Singapore but I think the house that was my first home had definitely had a visit from Grand Designs 'cos it really didn't look like that way back then! Take care in all that sunshine, go easy with the 'tinnies' - oh and steer clear of the 'snags' - not good. Looking forward to chatting soon, miss you loads :<). Hugs! Mum xxxxxxxxxxxx

you've certainly packed in plenty of adventures and experiences in thailand. you've both got through in one piece and hopefully a little more clued up on life as a traveller!enjoy the next part-so much to do and see in both parts of the world. oz is a backpackers haven and i'm sure you'll enjoy every minute of it. are you doing the oz experience? jess recommends it as you really do meet up with people. and also syaying in hostels youre bound to find travelling buddies. are you sky diving? or seeing how the money goes. again, an experience thoroughly reccommended by jess but not sure if my nerves would hold up for that one! have a brilliant time simon and hope you dont mind if we still peep into your blog for the next 2 months? its always so informative and entertaining! also chris still owes you mega bucks. has he sorted it yet? we can sort it from this end if you want. have agood one simon and take care. love from us all jackie x p.s chris was very non plussed before he went re the whole snake thing. feeling he'd outgrown it all. obviously not! they dont teach you that at cambridge!!

Nice one Si
Hi there Yes we enjoyed the long awaited blog, it does sound pretty good, though three weeks lounging about on some sun kissed beach must have been tough, but what the heck, I suppose some one had to do it. Would have liked a little more detail about the trip south, like how long and by what means? So how is Singapore? I had a look on Google the other day but was dissapointed not to be able to find the bungalow where we once lived. I hope that we will not have to wait untill Fiji to hear news of Chris's indivual leg of the epic, perhaps Si will allow you another guest appearence Chris, have a great time and take care. So Si on to Oz, Now then Si there are some critters out there which crawl, slither and swim of which you need to be aware, "no I dont mean the Aussie cricket team" rather those that sting, snap and bite, so take care. There again perhaps it could be Ricky's boys to which I refer. New camera sounds good, remember the tip about plastic bags. Enjoy keep in touch, your audiance eagerly awaits. love N&G "R"

Snakes Alive!!
Hey Si, please don't forget how to cook, you might need to fall back on it when you get home cos I am getting used to catering only for two these days!! Chris, if it makes you feel any better, I too would have run for the hills for sure. Snakes? No I don't think so! Apart from the them it all sounds fab. What is he thinking of going anywhere near them? Take care in Singapore - 'credit card fraud capital of the World' boys so keep your wits about you. I think Oz is a bit dodgy too Si! We have sunshine here this Sunday morning - Spring may be in the air! Enjoy your next few days together and both take care on your own! Looking forward to the next installment already. Stay safe. love Mum (B) xxxxxx

The undersea world of Si n Chris
You make it sound fantastic, we all eagerly await the next installment. Shame about the phone and camera, hope you are still managing to get some photos, tis always worth while having a few plastic bags in your bag!!! I'm so glad that I'm not a beach person otherwise I might have been very jealous, Did I hear a yeh yeh to that. Our new caravan arrived on Wednesday, so even though the temperature is still in single figures we are starting to think "SUMMER" we just hope that we get one this year! So, soon you will be on your travels again, Malaya and Singapore. One wonders does Chris have a plan "B" for the Indonesian leg of the trip? Si I've just read a blog on the trip "Cairns to Sydney" sounds good, and it can be done quite cheaply if you have a "tent" there are some great camp sites along the way. Anyway we hope you both continue to have a ball, good luck to you both, do take care and get the next installment on line. NnG.

Hi Chaps
Greetings from a very cool and Grey February day in Shropshire, there does that not make you feel homesick? It may be of very little interest to you Si that there was about two inches of snow in Leeds yesterday but I thought I would mention it anyway. Well done Chris a very interesting and informative blog, it still sounds like hard work to us but I guess thats down to the generation gap. Sorry to hear that you have both been a "bit" poorly, could it perhaps be down to some concoction you may have eaten? I did warn Si of the danger in dining off "THINGS" wrapped in a "Banana leaf" .So what is next? guess Malaysia (Malaya as it was in my day) must soon be on the itinery. A word of mild caution, do check your bags "before" presenting yourselves to their emigration control (they have some very Harsh laws). On a lighter note, when in Singapore remember to treat the TIGER with respect, it has a kick and a bite!! which can last for several days... Have fun, enjoy, take care.... Bye4now N&G.

Hello from Bath!
Lovely to hear from you.So glad to hear also that you are both in one piece! Did you learn to just walk out into the traffic to cross the roads, and the bikes would go around you in Saigon? Margaret and I were slow learners! but got the hang of it.Glad too you are being careful and not getting frizzled up by the gorgeous sunshine.Do be careful with your money and cards, my card was copied when out of my sight in Singapore market. I love hearing what you are both getting up to all of it! Lots of love to you intrepid travellers Liz

beach bummers
hi you both. fancy letting your travel blog get hijacked, simon. although it was a good blog if not a little 'trying to wiggle out of things' [probably a better word than that but cant think of it ] one! are you now in the 'serious beach lazing' mode? dodgey tummies from what? what alcohol are you drinking?- should sterilize most bugs! how are the beaches? beautiful sand and sea i should imagine. enjoy your diving. any other water sports available? look after each other. sorry if chris has robbed you blind. do you keep his shoes at night in case he does a runner?! hope the new card meets up with him somewhere in thailand! keep us posted. you have an ever increasing 'Ellis' following! love to both. be safe have fun we'llwatch the moon saturday and try not to imagine what you're up to! jackie/mum

Of Course The Banks Are To Blame....
Hi boys. Well it all sounds pretty good to me - maybe not the taking it in turns to be ill bit, and what about those ATM's - just rubbish! Not your fault at all Chris! It's such a relief to know that you will be keeping an eye on Si at the 'full moon party'! Enjoy yourselves and try to stay out of trouble, we all await the next installment with baited breath! Have fun. Mum (Botley) xx

Tubing?
Hey Si, do I really want to know what 'tubing' is especially when combined with alcohol - sounds like it might be a bit dodgy!! I should stick to the hammocks - much safer. Good old Chris - what's he like? Good job he took you along as a back up cash card!! I'm quite liking the picture of you two on bikes in the mid-day sun - what do they say about mad dogs 'n Englishmen? I hope you have pictures! Oh just in case you were wondering Wales is wet, windy and cold! Take care. x

Well I did warn you of rip offs did I not?
But I expect its all good fun even if it sounds like hard work to us, I have to tell you that Nan wonders if either of you should be allowed out unsupervised!!!!!!!. Bus rides sound a little hairy Seems little has changed since I last rode a far eastern bus back in the 60s spect they are still the same busses too. If that is the bus drivers one wonders what the pilots are like do you get a parachute? Or perhaps """"CHRIS""""" will be nominated as the Plane Driver. So where are these flights bound? We note that you are heading towards south Thailand at some time in the future ""Be aware that at present there is a small matter of Fisticuffs between Cambodia and Thailand an area perhaps better avoided. Remember you are a sports journalist NOT a war corrispondent. The food must be great if you can go for 36hrs it must be really filling.. By way of support we are having a curry tonight, might just wash it down with a nice cool beer! Have fun Take care and be Good N&G
