Bambi84 - Amber Matthews

Amber Matthews Dearest Family and Friends,

I thought I'd create a travel journal so you can all see where I am and what I've been doing. I won't update it too frequently as I'll be gone for quite a while, so I'll just post highlights from my travel adventures.

I know I'm going to miss everyone very much, so if you have time I'd love to hear from you all so I know what has been happening back home.

Thanks so much guys for your prayers and encouragement. I'm sure I would've chickened out if you didn't all lovingly spur me on (or maybe you're all just keen to see me go!)

I look forward to hearing from you!

With lots of love and blessings,
Amber xoxo

Greetings all, I hope you enjoyed the footy finals! I can't say I was surprised the Cats won, however I have no doubt the bombers will be on top in 2010! Look out!!! The airport in Nepal was actually screening the match. Our flight was delayed by 30 minutes which was convenient for me because it meant I was able to watch the ending! It was a pleasant dose of Aussie-ness that I've really missed since leaving home. I have now exceeded the 6 month mark in Doha which has zipped by. I'm convinced that the combination of travelling between time [View Full Entry]

G'day everyone, This update has been 6 weeks in the making but I finally got there in the end! It has been quite a hectic month and a half but also a very fun and exciting one. I'm always thinking to myself that there is never a dull moment working in aviation. No two flights are the same as things are continuously changing such as the crew, the weather conditions, the passengers, the destinations etc. You never know what to expect with each flight and just take it as it comes, although you try to prepare as best as you can [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone, Hope you're all doing well and keeping warm over there in freezing Melbourne! I'm glad I'm not there for that, although at times I wish I wasn't in Doha for their summer. We haven't had a day under 30 since I've arrived, and at the moment the temperate is averaging mid 40's. We had one day where it was over 50 degrees, although fortunately for me I had a night flight the day before and got home at 4am so I slept the whole day with the aircon pumped and missed the heat entirely. Although by 4am it had [View Full Entry]

Water evacuation training
Well I thought it would never arrive but what felt like the longest 7 weeks of my life are over and I'm now qualified to operate flights! Yippee! The last few weeks of training were just as intense as the first few. We spent half a week learning first aid which quickly proved to be the most challenging subject for me. We had to memorize all the medicines we keep in two different first aid boxes we carry on board. We also had to memorize signs and symptoms for various illnesses, so basically diagnosing them, then how you go about treating [View Full Entry]

Hello Everyone, Thanks to those of you who have left messages and/or sent emails. Hearing from people back home instantly becomes the highlight of my day. I finally finished my Cabin Services training which was a huge relief. I have never had to remember so much information over a two week period in my life. It was challenging but all the girls in my batch passed which was great. We learnt everything from preparing meals, to pushing a cart up and down the isle. We were taught a number of words and phrases in Arabic, so I can now say "what [View Full Entry]

This is where I live
Well here I am in Doha, Qatar. My first 6 days here have been amazing and challenging. I was met at the airport and taken to my accommodation the day I arrived. I’m considered one of they lucky crew members because I’ve been placed in a brand new apartment building. The apartment is very nice and comes fully furnished. It has two bathrooms, a dining room that is connected to the lounge room, a kitchen complete with washing machine and my very own large bedroom! It’s huge! The 9th floor of the building has a gym which I’ve been using daily [View Full Entry]
