Tuesday, November 2nd Hi Everyone, Today we went to Rome. It was a really full day. We went to the ruins at the Roman Forum, took in the Coliseum, and went to Trevi Fountain. And that was all before lunch! We had lunch in the Popes Restaurant across from the Vatican. Later we went to the Pantheon. The highlight of today was the Sistine Chapel. We had a very knowledgeable guide and learned a lot of history. We toured most of the Vatican museum and finished up with Saint Peter’s Basilica. We are not Catholics, but it was really beautiful. Hope everyone is doing well. On a personal note, please keep Brian and Chelsea in your prayers as we just learned that Brian’s father passed away on Sunday. Love, Arlyn and Nalynn... read more

Monday, November 1st Hi Everyone, Florence was great! We were first driven by Arton, our guide, to Pisa where we saw the Tower of Pisa. Although we did not know what to expect, the Tower was impressive. Pictures don’t do it justice, although I have placed a few of it on this web page as a feeble attempt. Next we headed to Florence for a walking tour. Our guide was fantastic. He was very knowledgeable about the art and history of Florence. It rained a great deal of the day on us, but most of the day was warm and pleasant We saw Michelangelo’s David in the museum and we saw so much art that we were almost overloaded. Nalynn bought a pretty red purse. We were tired, but it was a great day. ... read more

Sunday, October 31st Today could be summed up in one word - RAIN! It was drizzling when we woke and only rained harder as the day went on. We arrive in Toulon France at 8:00 AM and Nalynn and I had booked a tour of Marseilles, France. The bus picked us up at the dock about 8:30 for a 45 minute drive through the Provence area of France to the city of Marseilles. The City of Marseilles was beautiful, but it was recovering from a garbage strike from the last three weeks. The French are protesting new legislation that raises the retirement age from 60 to 62. I really feel sorry for them! There we went to the Palace at Marseilles, which was beautiful. We also went to the Notre Dame Cathedral at Gault which was ... read more

Saturday, October 30th We actually get a few hours of sleep last night, although I woke up at 2:30 AM feeling as though I needed to get up. By 9:00 AM I was groggy again. Nalynn adapts better to jet lag than I do. The hotel in Barcelona was great. We left for the ship on the hotel shuttle at 11:00 AM. Security was pretty tight, but all in all it seemed like a seamless transition to board the ship. The Brilliance of the Sea is the name of our ship. It is like a sea-going 13 story hotel. Nalynn and I are almost in the bowels of the ship on the 3rd deck, but the room is nice quiet=t and smooth. The Ship has everything two pools lots of hot tubs, library, Movie Theater, great ... read more

Ok, our vacation got off to a rather interesting start. Nalynn and I were up late on Wednesday night. She was doing the last-minute packing and I was finishing some administrative duties that needed to be closed out before leaving on vacation. At any rate we went to bed around 12:30 AM after setting the alarm for 6:00 AM. My brother Lyle had graciously agreed to meet us at 7:30 AM to take us to the airport. Somehow the alarm didn’t go off and I woke up at 7:27 AM! I have to tell you that Nalynn and I are usually always up by 6:30. In the 25 years we have been married neither of us can remember waking up late - but just wait until we have a two -week vacation and this happens. Long-story ... read more

Hi Everyone! This is our first entry. It is 9:45 PM and Nalynn is still packing! Two people, two carry-ons and two checked bags! I had no idea we would take this much but with the formal nights and all the changes of clothes, I guess it works out to that. I will tell you (I know, TMI) I won't be bringing socks, underwear and old tennis shoes back. The plan is to throw them away before we come back and replace them with souvenirs. Lyle is picking us up at 7:30 to take us to the airport and we are traveling via Atlanta to Barcelona. We will arrive at 8:55 AM local time, 2:55 AM CST. We will do our best to stay up the first day to recover from jet lag. We are meeting ... read more
