haha haha... i had a great experience in KL. perhaps, your low budget led you to jinx places. for a budget person like you, a cheap and low class service are the perfect matches
Dear X Umm... No, it's pretty fair to say I was disappointed as that would be exactly how I felt.
Yeah I guess I didn't do my homework properly, but then I've always hated homework. I scanned some hostel reviewing sites and the Cosmopolitan got the best ones so there I went. The complaining comes from me being spoiled by so much better accomodation for less money in other parts of SEA. But I'm slowly learning about what you get for your buck here in Malaysia. "You get what you pay for" really applies on the latest joint, here in KL, I'm staying in. More on that in a later post...
Unfair judgement I think it would be unfair to say that you had a dissapointed time. It's because you did not know where to stay or where to look around. KL has many places for cheap good food with pork. I think you need to do a little bit of homework before you go. And... if you want it cheap, no reason to complain
My sweet Joshua! I think you're getting a tad bit carried away and having some slight hallucinations, bless your heart. You're being awfully negative when you're twisting the actual positive things I mention into the opposites: "the company sucked"??? I thought I just metioned nice people I met. But then again, it's obvious you didn't read the whole thing as you ask questions that are answered in the post.
I'm glad you're the flagellant type who can find enjoyment in painful and insane bus rides, I can't. I hate getting from point A to point B and want to get it over with as quickly and smoothly as possible. I realize this is impossible, especially in SEA. Only on ONE bus trip was I able to listen to my WALKMAN, the other times the damn karaoke was too loud!!! But you love that shit don't you? Do you love euro disco aswell? I guess musicality isn't one of your traits...
I guess I was the only one seeing the barfer as I was the only one giving up my seat... Maybe you didn't detect the pity I was feeling for this poor old lady? Of course not! You were too busy hating my post!
I'm so glad to hear from the dude that wrote the rulebook for visitng Laos! I had no idea Laos was only for "people who want to engage with the culture". Gosh darnit! Stupid me, I only wanted to see sights and beautiful nature, while living real cheap. Well, too late now. Ha ha, the resort thing really cracked me up. Yep, that's me alright...
Yeah, you can expect the bus stopping for locals frequently, but what I don't like is when it does this for the same friggin bitch who thinks the bus is her personal freight truck. Bitch was clearly loaded with dough but still she had to make a busload of people wait (especially in customs) for hours just so she could rake in even more cash.
I ain't blaming the town for only having three hours of electricity, just stating it. Just as I stated that accomodation and food was pretty bad, but get this - I DIDN'T MIND! Guess that got lost in your indignation...
I don't demand western accomodation but it sure as hell would be sweet! :-) You see I like comfort and don't feel like it's more "real" if I suffer a bit. Unfortunately I'm not loaded with cash so I have to stick with cold showers, rock hard beds and sometimes crappy food. That doesn't mean I have to love it. Yeah I know, boo-fuckin-hoo-hoo...
Actually Joshua, yeah I really liked Laos. Beautiful country and some really good food (in some places). Unfortunately bad experiences seem to fuel the urge to complain on the blog, but it's not ALL bitchin' and whining...
Take care of yourself...and others.
/Angry and inexperienced asshole
Dear tool! Everything is relative and if you'd read some of my other posts you'd understand that I was quite zen-ish this time around. :-) And isn't an ordinary backpacking trip an adventure? Well maybe not, if you go to all the regular backpacker joints.
Dear hater! Actually, this moron is travelling with two backpacks: one with 20kg and a smaller with 10kg. I'm packing some heavy electronics so I can maintain my complaining on this blog.
Kisses from your loveable "human waste"
PS. I got the weight down to 25kg now, but I guess I'm not closer to being a clever guy just because of that...
http://www.visitors.sg/singapore-tourist-attractions.asp Hey thanks for the post. Amazing ain't it. There are just so many singapore tourist attractions. Will take me weeks just to finish visiting all of them. Wish me luck.
Eager to have a bad time? What a sad blog. Everything seemed that bad, huh? The rooms were horrible. The food was awful. The company sucked. Buses didn't meet your standard (altho I bet you paid less than $1/hr) Perhaps you forgot to meet locals? Did you try any local food? To me the local bus rides, despite a bit of discomfort to the bottom, are a wondrous adventure to see the real Laos. Too bad you tuned out to your own personal space with an Ipod and can only see the barfers and people that seem to hinder your agenda for getting to wherever you thought you were going (hopefully, back home)
Laos is for people who want to engage with the culture. It is not for site-seers seeking comfort and accomodation for their soft and narrow ways. Locals to you seem to be in the way. You forget you're on a local bus - that's why they stop all the time - for the locals, with their local gear. Du-uh. To blame a place for managing to have 3 hours of electricity seem shallow and callous - notice the locals bath in the river and don't bitch (which is what we did, and we met some great folks there, too - Lao people. They are usually the ones who are not white and don't speak English. I know, what a inconvenience....).
Next time sign up for some white-bread resort with other snooty tourists looking for others to entertain them. Leave the "real" world of Lao life to those who can appreciate its beauty, pace, and idiosyncracies.
"Calm and zen-like character"? What a laugh - I mean read your own blog. Did you enjoy anything? To me, you sound like some angry and inexperienced asshole who demands western accomodations in a non-western culture.
amazed Amazed how someone can use so much bad language and still be so calm and zen like...
And how to twist and turn an ordinary backpacking trip into something that sounds like an adventure, where everything is crap, a dump, or bad.
*****
what kind of moron travels with a 30 kg backpack??
what kind of asswit would be bitching just about everything when traveling??
the worst kind, the real human waste.
