My travels in India
What to say about a country as large and diverse as India. I got a sweet taste along with some sour tastes down in my belly two years ago. The 1st month was spent traveling around the ever colorful state of Rajasthan. Blue houses, Diwali, camel fairs and camel treks, this state was so easy to love. That took me to December, which was spent at the base of the Himalayas teaching English in the village of McLeod Ganj. This little village is just north of the administrative center for the Tibetan in exile government. My students were about half monks and a delight to teach. The highlight of the month was listening to His Holiness the Dalai Lama teach for 4 days. The last 3 weeks of India were spent working my way south past the ancient religious caves of Ajanta and Ellora and finally to the southern state of Karnataka. Here time was spent in the lovely red rock area of Hampi, which is also littered with temples from another ancient civilization. Finally a visit to one of the Tibetan settlements in S. India for another round of teachings by the Dalai Lama. India captured my imaginataion and
has drawn me back for more travels beginning this December.
