Hello, everyone! Being busy at work, I haven’t published posts for a while, but now I’m ready to share the story of my travel to Asia with you. The vacation I would like to tell you about is not recent, but I still have lots of impressions and pleasant memories associated with it. I was lucky to visit Vietnam this winter and, although, I tried to see as many places of interest I could, I am eager to tell you about one of the most romantic and unusual cities of the South-Eastern Asia. The city I’m talking about is Da Lat, which is located to the South of Vietnam.
Da Lat is the city, which will remain in my heart and memories forever. This is because I did not only manage to visit a great waterfall there (I will tell about it later), but also because I was lucky to meet my second New Year and meet generous and kind-hearted people there. What I would like to mention is that Asia in Da Lat is not the same as it is in Thailand, Laos or other cities and here is why.
A Few Words About Da Lat Da
Lat is located high in the mountains, namely 1500-1700 kilometers above the sea level. This is why it is always cold there. The air temperature rarely exceeds 10 degrees above zero, while the mid-day temperature may sometimes reach 23-26 degrees. One of the main benefits of Da Lat is that it is always sunny there, irrespective of the season. Even when the season of rains comes to Vietnam, the mountainous Da Lat still attracts people by its sunny weather.
Da Lat was founded by the French people about 100 years ago, so it is comparatively a young city. Located about 300 km from Ho Chi Minh City, it is a mountainous resort surrounded by the forests, hills, lakes and powerful waterfalls. To tell the truth, I’ve never seen such sceneries before – so exotic and vivid they are! No wonder, it is called “the small Paris”, “the flower city”, “France in the miniature” etc. Each of these definitions describes the specifics and characteristic features of the location, but we shouldn’t forget that much depends upon the people who inhabit the place. Vietnamese people are extremely generous, welcoming, kind-hearted and pleasant. They are always eager to be photographed,
so it seems they always smile.
As far as I spent my vacation during the time the Vietnamese celebrated their New Year, I found out many interesting facts about these people and their traditions. Thus, they burn paper in the streets and leave tables with food behind their house doors to treat passer-byes. Many people do not only walk in the streets, but also play different games right on the ground. This seems weird, but interesting at the same time.
The center of the city is so small that it is possible to walk around it on foot. All major cafes and places of entertainment are located not far from the market. By the way, I was astonished by the amount of exotic food products one can buy at the market. Such local delicacies as boiled snails, mussels, fresh bakery, fruit, vegetables are available there at any season. Moreover, you can always purchase strawberries at the market, because these berries are cultivated by the Vietnamese in special germination beds in Da Lat.
If someone asks me to name one thing that is worth to be bought in Vietnam, I would definitely name coffee! I have brought 5
packs of coffee that is manufactured in Da Lat. Even though this product is quite expensive there (about $2-3 per a pack), its taste cannot be compared to any other! Personally, I have never tasted such coffee before, so it is undoubtedly worth to be purchased!
Having visited Da Lat, I couldn’t but go to the most picturesque location of the place – the Pongour waterfall that impressed me most of all! To tell the truth, I had only 4 days to see the city and its places of interest. As I have already mentioned in my previous posts, I manage to combine my work and my hobby – traveling, as you understand! This is very convenient, so if your current job does not allow to do that, it is never late to change it. Luckily, that’s quite easy to do using trustworthy
job search engines that offer various vacancies to suit any preferences and needs. Some of my friends, by the way, did that and now we can travel together. Now, let’s get back to the Pongour Waterfall.
The Pongour Falls – the Best in Vietnam! To tell the truth, I didn’t plan to visit the Pongour Falls
at the beginning of my journey. Having accidentally read information about the waterfall, I could not miss the opportunity to go there, although it is located 50 km from Da Lat and the easiest way to get there is to rent a scooter.
The Pongour Falls is quite large and impressive. It is 40 meters high and 100 meters wide. The waterfall consists of 7 cascades and runs into a small lake. Local residents say that it is better to visit the waterfall during the season of rains, which lasts from June till October. This is because the waterfall is full-flowing at that time. Well, I didn’t manage to visit Vietnam during the season of rains, but I was not disappointed with its natural strength and amount of water falling down from the height.
It should be mentioned that to enjoy the sceneries of the Pongour Falls you will have to pay 10000 of Vietnamese dongs, which is around $0.5. The experience and impressions you will get there, however, are worth the money. Apart from watching the sceneries, you can also swim there and climb to the top of the waterfall using the cascades. The Pongour Falls is surrounded by 25 hectares of the tropic forests. There is also a cozy park not far from the waterfall. However, you will have to walk over 20-30 minutes to get there.
Well, it is high time to finish the story about my travel to Da Lat, but there are so many things I would like to tell you about. Hope, I’ll be able to continue the narration soon!
