In the morning Pete told us that he had booked a flight to Saigon. He had not been feeling well for some time now. In fact he had not been feeling right since he landed in Asia. Anti Malarial tablets are known for their horrible side affects and Pete had been taking them since leaving Bangkok. Along with feeling ill anyway, the tablets were only adding to his problem. This made bus travel very uncomfortable for him so he was left with no other option.
We booked a car to take us to My Son, which are temple remains from the Cham empire. I was glad we went, but I couldn’t help thinking that I would see much more impressive temples and ruins in Cambodia. We went out for lunch and found that it was happy hour at the restaurant. It seemed right that we should have a few drinks on Pete’s last day so we had a couple of cocktails with our lunch. As we walked around we discovered many bars had happy hour on cocktails. We continued the cocktail theme and tried a few we hadn’t tried before. By the end of the night Pete had decided that
he was going to miss his flight the following day and continue on with us. Cocktails are a wonderful thing!
We stopped for one more and a bite to eat at a place just down the road from our hotel. Being adventurous I ordered the chilli mojito. When it arrived it had more heat to it that most curries I’ve tried! I was struggling to finish my drink when we heard some familiar voices and in walked Mr and Mrs Canada and Mrs and Mrs Australia. We had a laugh with them - especially when I got them to try my drink - and arranged to meet them in a bar in Nha Trang which would be our next stop.
The following morning we were all woken early by road workers. The road had been upturned since we arrived, but we hadn’t actually seen anyone working on it. This along with the incredibly loud hotel staff was particularly unpleasant for Pete who was on the ground floor right next to the reception desk. We looked for a new hotel but the only places that had rooms available were the expensive places with spas. We all had pretty sore
heads after the previous nights cocktail marathon so after breakfast we all went back to our rooms for a nap.
Our nap turned out to be longer than expected. When we woke up it was time to get ready to go out for dinner. None of us were feeling that clever so we all wanted stodgy food rather than spicy Asian food. I ordered burger which when it turned up it had about 5 chips with it - most disappointing. Andy and Pete both opted for pizza which when it turned up was on the back of a moped from the local pizza delivery firm - cheeky!
We all agreed that an early night was for the best. Our train tickets to Nha Trang were booked for the following day and it was going to be a long journey. Just when we didn’t need it Andy and I both struggled to get to sleep - I think the long afternoon nap could have been a mistake
