The history of Long Bien Bridge, which was built in the early 20th century by the colonial French, was celebrated with various artistic events during a two-day festival on October 10 and 11, 2009.

The festival featured events such as a photo exhibition of 100 painters about Long Bien Bridge, an exhibition of 99 flute-kites and performances of traditional classical drama. In addition, there was an exhibition of wood-block paintings by French artist Henri Oger on daily life in northern Vietnam at the beginning of the last century and a release of 999 coloured lanterns on the Red River. There was also a marathon to send a message of peace marking the 10th anniversary of Hanoi’s title, “the City of Peace,” being recognized by UNESCO.
