This morning we were up and had brekkie at 8am. Breakfast was toast, eggs, fruit and sausage as well as tea and coffee.
Not long after breakfast the boat took us ashore Cat Ba Island where we boarded a shuttle bus for a 40min drive to the other side of the island where we hopped on another small boat and were taken to Monkey Island. The boat ride was breezy and cold but we putted through floating fishing villages and past other small and large islands of Halong Bay. After about 30mins we arrived at our little island of paradise. Monkey Island Resort is a humble resort that isn’t flash but has everything you could need.
We were shown our bungalows which have a perfect ocean view. After settling in we were treated to a hotpot lunch upstairs in the restaurant. We had a fire that the tables were sat next to. The hotpot was delicious. We had an absolute stack of meat and vegetables as well as noodles. There was beef, chicken, fish and squid, bok choy and broccoli as well as all the veges and mushrooms that were in the stock to start with.
After
lunch I did some diary writing while Stu took Frankie for a sleep and Dani and Zav went for a walk and play on the beach. At 3pm we were led by Ken for a walk to the other side of the island to see the monkeys. The walk was very rugged with the whole way having to walk up smaller and larger rocks. A lot of the rocks were quite sharp as well so when you would go to grab a rock for grip or to pull yourself up, we had to be careful we didn’t cut our hands.
Once on the other side of the Island the girls and Stu had fun skimming rocks across the water with Gerry. It wasn’t long before we saw a couple of monkeys so headed over to have a look at them. These aren’t very friendly monkeys at all. There were another group of tourists that had a bag of food. Well, one of the monkeys saw or smelt that food and that was it. He went to attack the man holding the bag of food. The man threw the bag of food over to the ladies he was with and
before we knew it about 9 or 10 monkeys had descended out of nowhere and were ripping into those packets of food. It was quite hilarious to watch!
We headed back to the resort on the path we came. Stu and Frankie had a play on the beach while Dani and Zav went for another kayak around the front of our beach area but didn’t go any further as the wind was picking up. They came back and did a dance in the kayak that Stu then had to film them doing.
Dinner was at 6.30 and was yet another delicious meal of the tour. We had fries, onion rings, salad, fried spring rolls, barbecued squid, chicken and pork and fried rice. Dinner was also finished with fruit. After dinner we all sat around the fire and chatted for a couple of hours. Stu took Frankie off to bed and the rest of us headed up to the karaoke bar on top of the hill. It was a bit funny watching the Vietnamese staff doing their karaoke. They were really great singers but they seem to love their “big ballad” type music. Our fellow tour friends got up
and had a go as well. Not me, I haven’t sung at karaoke since my Hen’s night!
Great end to another fantastic day.
