We booked this trip through a tour agency as it's the easiest and cheapest way to do so. Day 1 started us off in a small boat with about 10 other backpackers - we traveled 3 hours to Mytho, the gateway city to the massive delta. At Mytho we go... Read Full Entry

These rice cakes were just like rice-crispie treats. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed myself on these candy making islands.

This is the big boat where we stayed overnight, there was about 20 people in all. There was a nice sundeck and the beds were quite comfortable.

Start of Day 3 Families live on the big boats and go to the fruit orchards to pick up their fruit to sell. Then small boats barter and buy fruits, vegetables, etc to either consume or sell on land.

Our guide told us that within the 10 x 8 x 8 meter enclosure under the house there were up to 100,000 fish.

Wow....how exciting!
Hi, just read your blog....your trip through the Mekong Delta sounds amazing, thankyou for sharing. I found it very interesting to see where you have been as it helped me to read my confusing map of the erea and get an idea of distances and the time it takes to get around. I am wondering if you meant that booked your boat trip locally in Ho Chi Minh? Can you give me a rough idea of the cost of a 3 day trip through the Delta please? Thanks in advance, happy travels, cheers Francine

Hi Francine, Glad you enjoyed the blog. Yes, we booked our tour at Delta Adventure, on the main road in the backpacker area of HCMC (across the street from Highlands Coffee). I don't have the cost info with me, but if you ask them for the three day/two night tour with homestay and overnight on the boat, the price is set on the brochure. Enjoy the trip! Brooke
