I land at Bangkok airport and manage to book myself a taxi and make it to the guest house near Khao San Road hassle free. The first thing that hits me on leaving the air conditioned cab is the heat! I dump my stuff in my room, get ready and go to Khao San Road in the evening. I enjoy it more than I expected to. It’s busy, of course, but very friendly. And I feel perfectly safe walking around on my own despite the late hours. I’m famished after the long journey and my first meal in Bangkok is a pad thai from a street vendor. Yum!
