Crossed the boarder from Malaysia to Thailand, Langkawi to Satin and then took a mini bus up and across to Koh Lanta, one of the islands on the east coast. After a very long and extremely hot day of travelling, we rocked up at one of the hundreds of resorts along and beach and fortunately landed on our feet by finding a beautiful little place with lovely clean bungalows for 2 pounds a night. Then next day was spent at the local clinic then hospital as poor little Lou Lou had picked up a very nasty bug in Malaysia and was really unwell. We spent our days on the island working very hard on our tans and relaxing round the pool and beach. We met a group of Swedish guys and had fun chilling out with them. Every night there were crazy electric storms and the sky would turn steel grey, as its monsoon season on the east coast we knew the weather would be starting to turn. Once Lou was out of hospital and able to eat again, we made plans to move on to Phi Phi, the island that was pretty much completely wiped out by the tsunami.
We caught the boat over and arrived to clear blue sky and a beautiful back drop of the other islands. On the boat we met a girl called Sophia who was travelling alone for a few months. Managed to find a place to stay and wandered around the town. Loads of stalls selling jewellery and funky clothes shops. As the sky turned grey, we decided to treat ourselves to a massage. I opted for a foot massage, not knowing that this would also include my head, arms and neck (I had a massage in Fiji and was the only one who returned moaning that she had hurt me, but only to be told that was what was meant to happen - clearly my first experience at the professional message). Anyway, she did my feet, which hurt a bit but was mostly quite nice. But then she moved up and started digging her f**king fists into the back of my neck and I wondered what I had ever done to offend her so badly as I swear she was attempting to paralyze me!! I had to bite my lip to stop screaming out in agony, how the hell is that meant
to relax me when I have to tense so hard to stop her fully pushing me off the chair??? This would seem to only affect me as most of the girls have had several full body messages, Thai ones at that where they fully kneel on you and crack every muscle in your body. I know I'm a wimp, but it really hurt :o( That night we had a good night out, including lots of vodka and dancing, much fun thought felt very rough in the morning. The following day we rose bright and early for a snorkeling trip to the near by islands and the famous beach from the film, 'The Beach'. Hoped into our own long boat with a massive, what looked like lorry engine, attached to the back and off we went. We saw some really amazing coral and lots of pretty fishies, as well as stopping off at several really beautiful beaches. Our last stop was at "The Beach' which wasn't as impressive as I imagined (although I haven't even seen the film so didn't really know what to expect) but still very pretty. We enjoyed the views and sun (through the clouds) for a bit,
but unfortunately the trip was tarred a bit by the fact it was cloudy the whole day and very close to rain most of the time. Coming back was a little hairy as the wind picked up along with the waves - for a little while we thought we might get caught in the middle of a rain storm - but we didn't. It was a cool day though some how I ended up getting the most burnt I’ve got all trip - was a very warm evening!!
After much deliberation and changing our minds several times, we finally decided to head on over to Koh Phangan for the famous Full Moon Party. After a Very long day of travelling, we arrived and checked into our rather posh accommodation, organized by the Swedish boys a fair away from the 'party beach'. The next day we checked out the town, beach and shops, and planned our outfits for the evening. The sky looked very grey all day but it didn't actually start tipping with rain until the evening. We stocked up of plenty of vodka and crazy Thai red bull and had fun drinking loads in our rooms before braving the
weather. Fortunately, by the time we headed for the beach, the rain had slowed down and once we reached the main bars, it was rammed. After a bit of elbowing through, we found a small square of sand to dance. The music was cool and we were all having fun prancing around, though the dance moves regularly involved shoving people off your toes. However, after about half hour, Jo's phone and camera got taken from her bag, and then about 10 minutes later Katy's bag was slashed and taken. This obviously put a bit of a downer on the evening. Although it was good fun, it was all a bit too manic. The evening ended with the girls sleeping on our floor as their key was taken along with Katy's bag and the next day was spent at the police station and recovering from a hangover.
The following day myself, Katy and Lou headed for Koh Samui and Jo and Bekka set off for Phuket. All very exciting as Em (my sister) and Becca were arriving the next day....

thai massage
I have my own theory on the wonders of Thai Massage: I think those ladies really WANT to hurt you and THEN make you pay them for doing it!! I'm convinced it's some kind of payback thing.
