Inside the temple
Sorry about the quality, was pretty difficult to get inside but this is where they were whipping themselves up!! Ive been going on for the last few blogs about the vegetarian festival we'd come to Phuket to see, and how not much had really been happening over the last few days. Well! Today changed all that! We saw some of the most mental, only in films kind of stuff you could ever wish too! And it rocked so hard! But i must warn you that if your eating whislt reading on, or at all squeamish then perhaps you should klick this link instead www.dontbeapussy.com
Had to get up at six this morning to take a taxi as we had heard that it was all kicking off pretty early at the other side of town. We got out of the hostel and ended up jumping on a motorcyle taxi to the Sapam shrine (pronounced spam shrine!), this took us about 20 mins and it was just coming light when we arrived. It was just before seven and it seemed like we were just in time as some of the guys were running around and the place seemed to be pretty buzzing! At first we didn't know where to put ourselves as we thought that maybe it was for thai people
only, but there seemed to be some more westerners around so we had a bit of a wander and a peak into the temple. Inside there was about 7 or 8 guys bouncing around and inhaling the smoke of joss sticks whilst releasing sporadic primal screams, wretching and rolling their eyes into there head, this was proper exiting It felt like a regular night in Chorley, i was right at home! They were really whipping themselves up into a frenzy ready for the "main event"!
Anyway, one by one the guys danced out of the temples, through the crowds of by-standers and to some chairs where the waiting piercers proceded to ram stuff right through their chops! Depending on the size of the chosen spike they could either ram it straight through (if it was a needle or a skewer) or make an initial hole with a smaller spike and then poke through whatever they desired afterwards! once they were all pierced they set about the town on a big procession and collected offerings made by the local people. This is going to be happening all week but unfortunatley we must leave tonight so will miss the rest, but
This minght make your eyes water a bit cock
The Initial spike that was used to start the hole what we saw this morning was amazing!

I'm impressed! (as I am sure God is too, am sure he really appreciates all that) especially the guy with his eyes rolled back in his head, my, makes me feel so bland. maybe if I poked my eyes out!
