Waking up rather dizzy from yesterday's journey I brush the crud out of my eyes and go back to slumber. As I wake up again I feel rather tired, so I scratch my eyes a bit and go back to sleep. More slumber. As I finally come to my senses I rub my eyes a bit again, wide awake now, and something doesn't feel right. I get up and stumble into the bathroom where I make a nice discovery. No wonder I felt like rubbing my left eye, it is hiding under a nice swollen eyelid and is unable to open up. After a moment's distress I realize that this is mainly a cosmetic problem (though of a worrying magnitude) and I start fiddling about managing to open it just a little, looking like a complete monster. Finally I am able to open my eye about halfway, so that I can at least walk around without bumping into things.
After having some chicken noodle soup at a place in our block I head to the nearest pharmacy for some advice. They suggest I take some medication to drive fluid out of my body, which sounds a bit silly considering there
Looking like a complete idiot!
A little bit more than usual... is only a little in my eye I wish to get rid of. As we go to pick up some postcards we suddenly bump into the little man who drove us around town a few days ago, and he's out hunting for customers, so we decide to make use of him for the day. This means we begin by the token visit to that same old jewellry store where, we learn, his daughter is employed. Kay wants to find a place where we can buy foodstuffs for her family and we end up at an interesting store filled to the brim with various parts of dried animals. As we enter the store a clerk puts a little yellow sticker on Kay's arm, and another employee with a basket is set to home on this beacon and follows us around carrying the things for us and making recommendations. While Kay looks at spicy dried crabs I am offered to try some dried cocoons and larvae. They look a bit... odd... but don't really taste much, except that they make you bloody thirsty.
Kay still hasn't found everything she is looking for and we follow a recommendation to visit a restaurant
down at Laem Promthep, were she can finally find some more spicy shrimp. While we are in the neighbourhood we make a quick stop at the nearby lookout point by the lighthouse just as the sun is coming down. On the way back to town we get stuck in a traffic jam, but with food stalls nearby Kay can buy some chicken. After dinner back in Phuket Town I decide to give those dreaded pills a go, since I will be up writing postcards all night anyway. The pills sure do keep me busy through the night, and it is not until three in the morning that I am done writing and can catch a few hours of sleep before we have to leave early in the morning.
