Phuket Airport
We have arrived at Phuket Airport! The next morning, Kevin and I boarded our Thai Airways flight to the beautiful island of Phuket, located in southern Thailand. The flight was only just over one hour, which was fantastic! The plane landed at the Phuket Airport around 12:30 in the afternoon. I was amazed at how the runway was right beside the ocean. Beautiful!!
We were picked up at the airport by a driver holding up a sign for “Kavin Lower” and we started the one hour drive to our hostel in Patong Beach, on the south-west side of the island. The contrast between Bangkok and Phuket is astounding! Phuket is green and lush, with hills and winding roads. It is bright and sunny, a lovely 35 degrees. The drivers, though, are still crazy. The lines on the road are more like guidelines than actual law! Haha
We soon arrived at Patong and checked into our hostel for a two-night stay. It was called a “guesthouse”, but the rooms were more like a hotel! Very nice! (And cheap!) We then spent the afternoon on the beach with the other tourists, soaking up the sun and swimming in the ocean, which was so warm!!! This was the
Van
You can see Kevin walking to the van that drovfe us from the airport to our hostel at Patong Beach. first time Kevin could remember swimming in the ocean, and was surprised by how salty it was. He said it made him think of French fries! We then explored the area, with its many little shops and restaurants. We got a little lost on this one very dark, quiet street. Sketchy! We were followed by a pack of dogs, who thankfully kept their distance. Haha. But we made it back to the main area of town safely.
The next morning, I sat on the beach while Kevin “I’m-not-going-to-bring-sunglasses-to-the-ever-sunny-Thailand” Lower decided it was time to buy a pair. We then met up and made our way to a small community to go elephant trekking!!!! It was amazing! Even though it cost a small fortune it was totally worth it. We rode an elephant through the jungle and by the ocean, led by a guide, for one hour. It was incredible. Afterwards, we were allowed to spend more time with the elephants, we took lots of pictures and I had a good time spraying the elephants with water. It was great!
After this, we spent some more time on the beach and did some shopping in the little town. One
Van Driver
This is the van driver, holding up the sign that reads "Kavin Lower". haha thing about the town, there are tons of artists! Down the street from our hostel, every single shop was like a studio. I bought this beautiful red silk purse, with prints of elephants on it. Love it! In the evening, while walking down a busy street in the town, a man randomly came up to us and put an iguana on Kevin’s shoulder. He had a camera and was clearly trying to sell pictures with the iguana. This guy was pretty forward, and let’s just say Kevin froze like a statue with the lizard gripping his shoulder. Haha! We then called it a night, because we were leaving early the next morning to head to the harbour and take a ferry to Phi Phi Island!
