Day 3 ( Friday) saw us relaxing during the day just staying in our resort. We had our first massage on the beach (300 baht), which we both really enjoyed. Some of it was a bit painful, didn’t like the manipulation of my feet but overall it was really nice. It was lovely hearing the sea and when I could be bothered to open my eyes watch it, as well.
We had lunch sitting at the pool bar of the Merlin. That was fun, sipping frozen Mango Daiquiri’s & snacking on Nasi Goreng on bar stools in the water. Another new experience.
We were being collected at 5.30 for the Friday night BBQ that we were really looking forward to. We knew we would catch up with some of the forum people from the previous day as well as meet up with some new ones. When we had arrived back the previous day Terry had commented to me that the English couple we went to the Rehab centre with , Greg & Tracy, must have wondered what had hit them as apparently I just didn't shut up!! I was just so excited and was rather animated. Terry was sure
that I would have scared them off so we were very pleased when they were in the Ute collecting us that night. I couldn't have put them off too much! Tracy told me later, that she had said to Greg that meeting me was like being on Kath & Kim! That really cracked me up as anyone that knows me knows I am nothing like either of them.
We had an absolutely fantastic night, just so much fun and so different from what we would normally do on a Friday night at home which I guess is the whole point of vacations!! I will warn you that the transportation is pretty hairy but that all just adds to the experience and boy is it a good icebreaker when you are hanging on for dear life in the back of a Ute with lots of strangers! We all thought the ride in was so funny and we wondered how much worse it would be when we were alcohol fuelled later, as well!!!
The BBQ itself was great food and plenty of it. We were seated with those that we were transported with and so didn’t really get to meet anyone else.
Luckily we were transported with a great group of people and had a lot of fun. Beware the prawn skewers - I was merrily eating away when I inadvertently bit and swallowed a whole Jalapeno pepper. I thought it was just a piece of red capsicum and my spicy awareness guard was down as the food was so westernised. I learned a big lesson that night and gave everyone else a good laugh at my distress!!!
Then it was on to the Sunshine Bar, which is just the most fabulous place. Cindy & Lyn from Perth introduced me to Mai Tai cocktails - thanks girls. Let me say that Terry & I, although enjoying a social drink are certainly not big drinkers but boy did that change over the course of this holiday!!! Bad influence these English people - Greg & Tracy in particular ;-) It started raining heavily so we were all squashed around the bar and again didn’t get to mix with many others We did meet Laura (From London, I think) as well as a lovely American couple. If you were there, Hi and hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did. Richard & Megumi were
Lyn & Lesley
My first MaiTai! great hosts with Richard donning the Santa suit again although I’m sure he just did that so we all sat on his knee!!!! Congrats to those that made it up the pole and to those that tried - no way was I going up there with everyone watching! The staff are such fun and really add to the whole evening. With all their singing and antics, the gorgeous ladyboys and of course the irrepressible “fat” (no idea how you spell his name but that’s how it sounded.) the evening just went so fast and we were so disappointed when we had to leave about 10.30pm. The trip back down to Patong was hilarious. We said goodbye to the lovely young English couple (sorry I can’t remember your names) and also to Barry & Natalie from USA. If Barry & Natalie are reading this, I’m sorry if we scared you off but we were all just having such fun and did enjoy meeting you both as well.
Our night was not over and Terry & I were then introduced to the nightlife of Bangla Rd by Greg, Tracy, Cindy & Lyn. My jaw hung open most of that night at the
amazing sights and the atmosphere of the whole place. Yes, it was very in your face but non threatening and I suppose because we were in a unisex group we weren’t hassled too much. It was a wonderful night with wonderful people - thanks to everyone for the memories.

Hi Lesley, thanks for putting in that lovely pic of me. My husband is always tellling me I have a big mouth and heres the photo to prove it, lol. I don't think I was laughing, that was the sheer look of terror as we diced with death in the back of the ute with the driver from hell. I don't think I'll ever forget that night. Was fun, fun, fun!! Cheers Cindy
