Raffles Hotel
Being Glamorous with our Singapore Slings! Hello Everyone!
Well at present I am sunning it up in Thailand but I have quite busy since my last entry, with many exciting little stories to share! So sit back, maybe go make a drink and enjoy our mini adventure from Singapore to where we are now, Koh Samui, which is an island off the coast of Thailand!
Singapore We touched down in Singapore on the 8th of November and got our first real taste of backpacing! So far we had been living in the lap of luxury in Tom's Hong Kong apartment and now we were very much having to do things for ourselves! Once there we found our hostel and wasted no time in exploring the city, first stop, shops! They had some really cool clothes shops, though be warned as the staff may get a little bit friendly! Although merely enquring about a funky belt i saw the guy in the shop wasted no time in putting it on for me! Wherein he was struggling for a long time round the crotch area! And this was only two hours into our time here! Oh well, obviosuly they're taking customer service to the next level!
Bird Flu!
Sarah feels the threat of Bird Flu in Singapore! Our first night in Singapore we went to Raffles and sampled their Singapore Sling! The ones at Chase are a fraction of the price and potentially better! After that we went in one of their trishaws and explored the city by night! The next day we did some more exploring, taking in Chinatown, Little India and the colonial district! Chinatown was cool, little india was like bradford and the colonial part was very western and very clean! That evening we then went on a night safari which was very cool! Next day was our day at the beach which was very much needed, though the cable car to Sentosa Island where we went freaked Sarah out! Sarah being neurotic? Shocker! The next day we did a little more exploring but generally faffed all day as we waited for out sleeper tarin to Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur Kuala Lumpur is perhaps the skankiest place I have ever been to in my life! Fact! It was dirty, full of rats and generally smelt! And our hostel was awful! Though that said I did have fun there enjoying the general mingness of the place! The petronas tower (2nd
Singapore Nightlife!
We couldn't wait to explore the local club scene! tallest building in the world) was cool and i managed to go up it. Though Sarah thought staying in bed was a better option! Which may have been sensible! The Menar Tower, which is one of the tallest towers in the world also got a visit from us during our time there! We also went to the a temple carved into the mountains, the Bhatu Caves! That was cool though the 300 odd steps to get there was mildly traumatic! Though one guy was having to carry a table up them, so guess it wasn't all bad!
Penang After KL we headed to Penang, a small island off the coast of Malaysia! We were only there for a day and in that short space of time we headed to the nearby beach and generally explored the island! Peneang was cool, though like KL was kinda dirty and full of rats! We left Penang on the morning of the 14th had to get a 5am bus to Koh PhangNan in Thailand!
Koh PhangNan Well this is the part of the story where we arrive in Thailand and hence where it all heats up
a bit! The 14 hour bus journey was all very traumatic, though we had some cool people with us so it wasn't as bad, and picture this scene! We cross the Thai border and then our bus driver gets out, meets a random guy, exchanges money and then puts some random packages back on the bus! We may or may not have been drug smuggling! We just can't be sure! At about 7pm we arrived in Koh Phangnan and checked into some beach bungalows with people we had met on the bus! That was cool, and the next morning we were woken by the sound of monkeys pulling coconuts from trees! Random but very cool! Sarah and I and an Aussie couple we befirended, Loren and Coot, decided to move bungalows to somewhere closer to all the action! We found a new place further down and all shared a room together, which made everything very cheap! That day we sat by the beach, and generally did not a lot! Then that evening we had bno (big night out)! The four of us went into Had Rin and sampled the local thai delicacy of Sangsom! And the buckets came thick and fast! Had a very cool night but the next day we felt rough, which was the full moon party day! We spent the day not doing much trying to feel better but in the evening we still all felt bad! We still all made it to the full moon party though! Was a really cool night though maybe going out the night before was an error! Sarah however felt worse of all and headed back early..... which brings us to another part of the story.... The rest of us made it back to our bungalows about 6 to a completely manic Sarah. While she was back in the room some Thai guys tried to break in. At which point Sarah's bunny boiler rating went off the scale and she went completely crazy at them so they left. Very scary for her, but everyone is fine which is the main thing. After that we spent one more night on the island, and as had gone before it was a day of leisure!
So that now brings us to where we are now Koh Sumui! We're thinking of heading to a foam party tonight! Should be fun! Oh and I think we've spotted in excess of ten lady boys right now!
Hope everyone is well!

Wish I was there!!!
Sounds such fun - feel like I've really missed out in life - never mind, still time I suppose if I could brave the long flights! Think I'd want to do it slightly more upmarket at my age though! Seeing the photos makes me realise how much I miss you Sarah. Still, only 10 months less 2 weeks to go!!!! Keep up the journal Stewart, it's great to read and there's only so much info you can receive in a text! Take care of each other. Love to you both.xx
