laos-chiang mai

o my god....so glad to be sat writing about this story....we thought we were gonna die on our way here from laos. we booked our bus trips from vang vienne to viennetiene to pick up our visas and then from their to chiang mai.worst night of our lives!! set of from vang viene at 9am and went for our new visas in vientiene at about 1 oclock. we were told wed be picked up from a travel shop at 5pm by bus.anyway a tuk tuk arrived,also carrying a crazy chinese oap who loved rachel...couldnt understand a word he said.we changed to a big flash bus at the borders (had tables and everythin) actually it was very much like a gypo caravan inside but comfy. little did we know we were only on this for about 45 minutes where we had to change onto a mini bus in the middle of nowhere.....this was at about 8pm!! we were so excited to find out we had the whole mini bus to ourselfs!!!!! untill about 11.30pm when we realised we were on our own with a random thai man who couldnt speak a word of the queens,driving through the worst roads weve ever seen....windy...not lit and pitch black...was like driving through a forest. Lisa and rachel sat up allll night scared trying to keep ourselfs amused by playing our favourite game would u rather? we were petrified! well shel slept through the whole thing! he was even popping loadsa pills,god knows what they were. this wasnt the worst,rachel noticed he was falling asleep at the wheel on these bad roads and this was only at about 12 oclock! he was a nutter! hate him still!!! lisa n rach kept tryin to talk to him to keep him awake...didnt help our nerves at all when we asked have u got family and he said NO....ALONE!!! great so he obvs doesnt care if he dies...WE DO!!! he was falling asleep all the way untill eventually at about 5.30 he pulled into a service station turned the car off and just said I NEED! he totally passed out! we couldnt wait to get out and let him sleep untill it was daylight when it didnt seem as scary and we were on propper roads with other cars around.we got to chiang mai at about 7.30am and went straight to bed in our hotel after no sleep at all,well shel just had more sleep!! got up for dinner and stayed out all afternoon. went to the CHIANG MAI NIGHT BAZAR MARKET.amazin!! bought loads more crap again......gonna need another rucksack each! found a nice bar called phils cocktail bar and thats were wewill be going after weve finished writing this! tried geting a tuk tuk back last night knowing we only live round the corner,untill he got totally lost for about 20 minutes but we got to see loads of the city and the bars and clubs look fab! went to visit the hill tribe villages today....the ones with big stretched necks and baggy lugs! oh and black teeth......feel dead sorry for them seeing where they live. their was loads of little kids and they were tryin to jump in the bus with us they were dead cute. went to some cave....big...buddas in.....couldnt tell yas the name bit borin to be honest.haha.goin to the Thai boxing tonight and then the very authentic......RED LION!!!! cos weve saw a sign for it and they sell strongbow!!!!! wooopyyyyy! tiger sanctuary tomorrow and sunday walking street tomorrow night then back to bangkok monday to head back down south to the beaches and full moon party!! fingers crossed its not a mini bus!!!! xxxxxxxxx

I bet you crapped yourselves a few times on your overnight bus ride. So, when you get home you will be taking up Thai boxing.Nearly 4 weeks now since you went out there.It is an experience you will never forget. Love to you all Nana & grandad xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
