Today was the annual Chiang Mai flower festival, with lots of floats all completely covered in flowers as you can see they were amazing - a bit like the Bridgewater carnival except with flowers instead of lightbulbs ! i went with Fab from France and Mareika from Holland, 3 girls having fun. then it was dinner time .... today was mango with sticky rice .. oh god it was sooooo good.
I havent mentioned the food much which is really odd because the Thai's eat ALL day long !!! every 10 yards there is another food stall selling the most amazing and varied food, i dont think they cook at home much, as everyone is always eating in the street, there are little plastic chairs to sit on everywhere, and thats just what you do .... sit on the pavement on a plastic chair and tuck in 😊
Then it was swimming time in the pool, god its cold !!! There was lots of fuss, squeeling and general mayhem when i was entering the icy waters !!! and there was a girl watching me and laughing her head off , she's from Rochdale, but hey none of us are
perfect !!! anyway nice girl who has just arrived in Chiang mai and she doesnt know anyone here yet, so weve arranged to go to the night flower carnival tonight, i love this travelling, you meet so many different people !!!
Then Mareika and i decided to go for a full body massage with oils, not a Thai massage as thats very vigorous bordering on the violent !! so i had an hour of bliss, they massage every inch of your body from head to toes (except a 3" square that is a private place!!) they even massage your earlobes !
after i had mine i looked over at Mareika and she was in floods of tears, the massage had released lots of emotions and she was in melt down for about 15 mins ! so myself and the massage lady were holding and comforting her, with lots of rocking, rubbing her back and cuddling !!! She said it was a real release of emotion/suffering, or in her own words " she took all the shit out of me" It was quite an experience.
Mareika has now left for her travels feeling much better, and so i
went out with my newest friend Jilly from Rochester,a 23 year old sweetie - we've just got back from the evening flower show, really crouded place with very few westerners around, it felt really cool to be a part of a real thai culture event. There was a dancing show and lots of presenting of trophies (we left at this point) and walked around a carnival atmoshere with a million food stalls - we stopped at the cricket and cockroach stall and looked at each other - pulled a face at the smell, and walked on !!!
i bumped into Bob Geldoff - well as he looked 20 years ago ...... as you will see
The Thai people are lovely, gentle and very friendly except when they get behind any sort of transport vehicle, whether it be a cycle, motorbike, tuktuk, taxi, car or van they are absolaly crackers !!!
its common place to see mum, dad, and the 2 kids on a motorbike as well as their shopping. but the other day i saw 2 men carrying a double mattress and bedframe on a motorbike !!!! unreal ........ the only good thing is they drive on the
left, so i know which way the bike is going to hit me !!!!!
I can say "hello", "thank you" and "it was delicious" in Thai, and i'm a wizz at hailing a taxi and getting the right price for the jouney, i also know the word for crazy foreigner !!! (farlong ting tong)
anyway ive just phoned Vicki AGAIN and she was probably in the kitchen ironing this time as there was no answer, but i'm assured she's fine so maybe one day !!!!
thanks mum for the message it's good to know your well and getting the hang of this internet malarkey !!
night night all xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
