Sunday 7th October - Nikkon came over and did some planning for the camp with Jon - I added a couple of little bits but went back to more cutting out of material to prepare some little hand puppets and then had another great Thai massage from one of the local ladies.
Monday 8th October - Had the great experience of going to the hospital once more - this time to the Dental Clinic. Fortunately, the dentist was able to do something for my gap. She was very thorough and happens to be a mother of one of the little boys I teach at the school. After a couple of hours in the chair, I then got a tuk tuk to the bus junction and went to Nong Hahn to the bank and back again and it was a very early night to bed as my face was quite sore - my ears are still not 100% either so I guess I was feeling a bit low the last couple of days.
Tuesday 9th October - Before another visit to the dentist, Jon and I had a quick look at the market that had come to town. This seems to be
the entertainment in these towns. Then it was back in the dentist chair for some more treatment. Bupha, the dentist then went and got her little boy, Benjapon - “Plub” is his nickname - just to say hello. All the kids have such long and difficult names to me a Westerner but they all seem to have nicknames so makes it a bit easier. Saw Plub again up at the markets and also my Thai massage lady recognized me and said “Sawaadee Ka” the greeting for hello.
Had a “catch up sleep” this afternoon and now the place is a hive of activity with several students from the different schools arriving for the English camp being held here so there are mattresses being set up and chopping up of ingredients in readiness for dinner. I won’t be having any as not allowed to eat for 24 hours- dentist instructions!. So, hopefully, by the end of the week I will be feeling lots better than I am feeling now. Woe is me !!!!
Wednesday 10th October - Well, this the must be the week of everything going a bit haywire - just got the dental stuff worked out and now my
camera has finally given up the ghost and I am going away the weekend so don't want to be without one so it will be off once more to Udon Thani - no I haven't any boyfriend there !!!!!
Today at school was a fun morning with the finger puppets. The little kids seemed to like them and then the usual colouring in. They should know their colours with all the colouring in - still good for their motor skills and some of them are very good and put a lot of effort into their colours. Went up town and put some photos in as I seem to be jinxed for sure with my photography. Called into see Plub for his birthday and then his Mum, Bupha picked me up and I went to her friend's place for a lovely spread. Was Thai soup and kebabs - Bupha's first attempt at them but they were very nice. There were several people there and also another of my little pupils and her Mum. Driven home and as usual prepared for the lessons for tomorrow.
Thursday 11th October - Today was an interesting day - 23 new pupils arrived and there was
about one older girl that had a little grasp of some words. So it was back to my colours and shapes. Also did a color word search but when you checked what they actually knew about the words they had found, they didn't have a clue. After class, Gee drove me to the junction and after an hour's wait, the bus finally arrived and I headed once more to Udon Thani to see whether I could replace my camera - did and the chap was very helpful. I got a tuk tuk to the bus station and managed to miss the 5.30 bus so had a long wait until 7.00 as I wasn't game to go too far - got the impression that the bus would be going at 6.30 and then another said 7.00. Finally went at 7.00 so it was a late back to the house.
Friday 12th October - Started off with the lesson to the 23 kids there yesterday and while I was in Udon Thani they all had their nicknames made and hung around their necks. This helps a lot when you need to ask one of them to do something. But then one by
one I seemed to have a few more roll in and by the end of it there were 32 so madly making more name tags and of course not just the name on the cardboard but had to be coloured in. Went through colours, shapes and body parts mainly the head -- that was preparing them for the smileys they were going to make. I then spent quite a bit of time preparing sheets to leave for the time I am away next week. Also had fun watching the students staying on the camp practice some Thai dancing and of course, Jon was hard at it with his Thai boxing and sword fighting lessons. But the big excitement was the internet was finally connected at the house!!!!!!!
