After flying into bangkok from Udon Thani we went straight to the bus terminal at the airport to get a bus to pattaya. The trip costs around 130 baht & takes around 2 hours. The buses are air conditioned & have plenty of leg space. We stayed at Jomtien Furama at jomtien beach which is south of central Pattaya where it all happens!!! Its a lovely hotel very good amenities but a bit far out from the shops & nightlife though you can get a songthaew there with little effort & for 20 baht but its hard to get one back, especialyy at night unless you're willing to pay.The beaches at Jomtien are quieter than at Pattaya & in the evenings especially at weekends many thais have picnics on the beach away from the sun. The beaches are mostly floodlit so its quite safe. Walking Street is in full swing after 6pm when the road is closed to traffic & the clubs & ladies go into overdrive.!!Its a good place to have a drink & take in the sights, a bit like Bangla Rd in Phuket. We took a ferry to Koh Chang, a small island off the coast from Pattaya, the water
is clearer out there if snorkelling & scuba are your thing.A lot of people seem to stay at the resorts on the island, can't comment on what they're like but we got the 1pm ferry over which is the last one from Pattaya daily & the markets & eateries on the island were packing up. We managed to get a feed but its expensive to eat & drink over there. The last ferry leaves the island at 5pm for Pattaya but we got the 4pm as we'd seen what interested us. Apparently its good for birdwatching as well. The ferry trip takes around 40 minutes & is good for 30 baht. After 6 days in pattaya we took the bus back to Bangkok but this time from the northen bus terminal as we were going to Ekami bus terminal inBangkok as it was nearer to our hotel, Kingston Suites at Sukhumvit where we'd left 3 of our suitcases or ports as we aussies call them, & just travelled light for the 3 weeks we were away. The hotel did'nt charge us as we were staynig there for the few days left in bangkok before we flew back to Oz. We finished our
shopping & as we had a late night flight from bangkok, instead of paying for another day at the hotel we opted for a cheapie very close to the airport. Sinsuvarn airport hotel which was less than half the price of our hotel in town & gave free transfers to the airport. They have a nice restaurant & at the end of the soi there's a lively pub which had live music that night. Unfortunately we did'nt realise till we were on our way to the airport. Good hotel for any time you have a very early or late flight. Good trip with Thai & back in Oz by midday.can't wait to come back, will spend a bit loger in cambodia next time.
