Early start - mini bus to the historic site of Ayutthaya - 81km north of Bangkok. Originally the capital of Thailand for 417 years. Saw the amazing huge reclining Buddha of Wat Lokayasutharam, the Buddha monasteries, mandapa, royal palace, city fortress and climbed the Chedi of Queen Suriyothai - great views. Our best highlight was the Buddha head entangled within the tree roots.

Thai lunch in street cafe. Then in the afternoon we visited the king's beautiful magnificent summer palace. Had lots of beautiful exotic flowers and water fountains. Ellie had to dress up in a sarong (purple of course) to enter inside the opulent rooms - lots of gold and chandeliers. Met lots of different people also travelling through Thailand - including a nice Swiss lady who was travelling around SE Asia. Very hot day - but worth the effort!
