Woke early and it is very hot again today. Saman IS nice, but nowhere near as perfect as our other hotels have been. E.g. the coir matting in the bed area, only 1 litre of water per room each day, a small tv. Moan, moan, moan.
Actually, I don't like to watch tv on holiday but since Roy was ill, we got in the habit of switching it on and we got hooked on National Geographic channel. Roy likes reptiles, and there are some shockingly bad snake hunter programmes! Jungle Jake is just one of them...
And there is an ad playing CONSTANTLY for a Spelling Bee contest that is being aired tonight. There is an Asian kid in it who spells Shylock (S.H.Y.L.O.C.K. if you were wondering) and we've both got our imitation of him off pat now!
Breakfast was good. We had fruit juice (watermelon) and a fruit platter. Toast and pastries. Scrambled eggs, bacon, beans, hash brown, tomato! The works! We were soon back in the room complaining we were full and trying to cool down. I have an upset stomach again (but it isn't bad enough to stop me eating).
The hotel is full of
french people - a large group of them, they're nice but boisterous. As I write this (noon) they're drinking beer and have taken root in the pool. They'd probably have been evicted from the Fortress!
We were offered a free 15 minute relexology session in the Spa earlier. It was very nice. We considered a full treatment, but it is really expensive here (especially so as prices are in US Dollars) so we decided against it. We also decided not to go out in a tuk tuk, which we had planned to do. We are quite content to stay here all day and relax. There are Brahminy kite over head.
I had a spectacular fall in the pool - Roy wasn't here, and I decided to go in via the tile steps instead of the ladder. Big mistake - I slipped on the bottom step and landed on the corner of another one right on my arse. My right cheek and back are really sore! Nobody came to help or see if I was ok! Only the pool boy...
Of course, a humoungous bruise appeared later on.
Had a few swims and then a walk along
the beach to see the tracks of a huge water monitor we'd watched walking around earlier. We had a look at the Sea Turtle project but didn't go in. Then we had a beer before sunset, but alas, sunset was not to be. Instead we got a darkening sky and a massive rain storm. We watched it while finishing our beer and cashews and then went back to the room. We phoned home and used the internet to check in for our flight tomorrow. We're pretty much ready to go.
Dinner - greek salad to share. Bread and very garlicky dips. Sorbet. Roy: Kingfish, mash, mustard sauce, veg. Jan: chicken stuffed with spinach, feta, corn, with a pesto tagliatelle and mushroom ragout. Good but not fantastic. Puds: Jan had grand marnier tower with cinnamon ice cream and treacle confit (it was actually like tiramisu, really nice). Roy had a warm cappucino tart with rum n' raisin ice cream and fruit compote. Also very good. Coffee and smuggled Baileys. The restaurant was empty apart from one other couple. Such a shame.
Back to the room, where rainforest roy and jungle jan enjoyed some more National Geographic. Bruise on arse
is now MASSIVE and hurts in bed.
