22nd Feb – Mahiyangana Waterfall and Sorabora Lake
Today we went to Sorabora Lake (05:00 start) and went to a boat where a man rowed us out to the lake after a while I had a go paddling, 5-minutes later I swapped with Sophie. Dad rowed for 10 more minutes until we came to some shallow water where me, Sophie and dad jumped in and it was surprisingly warm. When we got out we went fishing where dad caught 5 fish, Sophie 2 and mum and Jonathan 0 fish. After, we threw them back in to the lake because they were too small to eat. After we went through a jungle walk and followed a river to the biggest waterfall I have ever seen. We were going to swim in the waterfall. It was too much water so it would be dangerous to swim. So we swam in the little canal. On the way back a sleeping plant was on the road and if you touch it, it fell together.
!!! PIZZA HUT !!!
because we were sick of rice and curry Jonathan
The boat was a surprise because there were two canoes split apart with wood
on. We saw loads of birds. We wondered why the man stopped the boat as it was just the family on it. Then he said "can you swim?", and we said "yes". Then he said "get in!". We were freaked out because there were baby crocodiles in the lake and it looked really cold. Back on the boat we did a bit of fishing, I caught 2 mullet. The rod was just a stick with some dough on a hook.
Flora and foods - The plant is Mimosa and the leaves curl when it is touched. Rice and curry is great but maybe not for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Standard fayre is chicken curry, rotti, dhal, rice, poppadoms, curried beans, curried pumpkin, infact anything grown is curried, there are typically 10 dishes to chose from on the table. Hoppers, a rice flour pancake, are delicious for breakfast. Any roadside vendors food will blow you head-off!

A bit different here!
Did you flick the leeches off with your fingers or a stick or some other way. We are back at school now. We really enjoyed half term. Are school yesterday we did maths, english, this was seriously boring compared to what you are doing. Daddy is on his turbo trainer now in the conservatory in the dark, he wants to give Bradley Wiggins a run for his money!!! May be that is the plan Bradley runs the 50 miles while Dad pedals. It is not quite the same as walking up a tea plantation mountain and swimming in the lake. Mum ran round Oare yesterday but did not see any tea except the cup when she got home. Keep well and enjoy all of it. Love from Katherine and Victoria
