On the way!
Waiting to board the plane. Hello everyone! I was finally able to connect my laptop to the internet and now you can follow me on my Korean adventure with my sister Liz and my mom. Liz and I have never been to Korea or met any of my mom's family except for my grandmother who raised us since I was about 5 years old and moved back to Korea about 4 years ago. My mother has only been back to Korea once since she married my father 28 years ago and that visit was over 15 years ago. We were all very excited for this trip, a well deserved reunion for my mother and a new, exciting adventure for Liz and I.
So the flight was a grueling 12 hours especially since my tv broke after the first hour and I couldn't sleep so trying to keep one's self occupied was pretty difficult but I made it! We landed in Seoul's Incheon airport and were greeted by our 3 cousins (Bona, Bohyun, and Soohyun) as well as our Aunt Uanah. The language barrier was immediate as Liz and I speak very little Korean and our family speaks very little English, luckily our cousin Bona speaks

Incheon Airport decent english so it's nice not to depend on my mom as a translator the whole time.
Our first stop was to see our other Aunt who's name is Bowlah. She looks like my mother's twin it was surreal! She owns a very large and beautiful plant nursery. Unfortunately, due to customs we are unable to bring anything back 😞 After a quick hello we were off again to my aunt's apartment where we stayed the first night and where my grandmother was anxiously awaiting our arrival. The reunion with my grandmother was very emotional, after lots of hugs and tears my mother, Liz, and I performed the traditional bow to my grandmother. Dinner was then served traditionally on a Korean table with the entire family sitting on the floor, which definitely takes some getting used to! After dinner our cousins wanted to take us out so we walked down to the subway and headed to one of the many hot spots in Seoul! We walked around taking in all the sites, tons of shopping and wonderful, smelling street food! Unfortunately, we were full from dinner so didn't get a chance to try any of the food. After a quick

My Aunt's nursery cocktail we headed back, Liz and I had been up for almost 30 hours so we were fighting to stay awake plus we were going to Jeju Island the next day which is where my mom grew up.
The next morning we woke up and had a Korean breakfast which is the same as lunch and dinner. It's a little interesting having kimchee and rice for breakfast but we're managing! 😊 For lunch we went to a Chinese/Korean restaurant whose speciality was Jajagmuhn (black bean noodles) and Janpong (spicy seafood noodle soup). The food was delicious and after we were stuffed we headed to the airport for Jeju Island! (I will follow up with Jeju in a separate entry).
