My winter wardrobe
I find this photo amusing. It's nowhere near enough clothes to face the winter here but it is well arranged! :-) Hello!
I have absoultely nothing exciting to say about the past 3 weeks but thought I should very quickly blog before I head off for a week in the Philippines (I don't want to ruin my Philippines blog with the little bit of school related stuff I do want to tell you all about!) The taxi is due to arrive in 4 hours time to take me to the airport (it's currently 12.30am and it's coming at 4.30am to get us there for a 7.30am flight) and I've just finished packing ready to go. I sort of went Salsa dancing instead of packing my bag! And I figure that instead of getting an essential 3 hours sleep I'm going to write this, send some emails, eat an omelette and watch some Glee! What are plane journeys for other than sleep? I can't remember the last time I saw the plane I was on actually take off!
So......the last 3 weeks! Well, my cycling has continued! I have cycled to school most days and my legs are feeling it but it's been great. I love the photo of me and Katharine on our 'first day' biking in together - we
A Christmas tree!
This has been up in one of the local bars since we arrived. The bar is called Barabar - nearly like my Mum! Lots of things here are variations of my Mum's name! are rather embarrassing as we nearly knock down pedestrians each morning! I have also been to visit a chiropractor as my back was starting to hurt from all of the cycling and general teaching 'bendy down-ness', and he has diagnosed me with something that has a long name (actually, 2 things that have long names), so I now go for a 1:1 pilates session, a massage and a chiropractic session twice a week to try to sort me out! It's quite exciting but also quite painful at times.
In other boring news, I was poorly last weekend! This didn't mean that I sat still of course. In fact, whilst feeling rough from both illness and the chiropractor I ran 3k at the school fun run. Why I chose this day to make my running debut I will never know. I generally don't do running, especially when feeling rough, but I was a little bit proud of myself as I got round with only a little bit of walking :-) We also treated ourselves to a lovely lunch afterwards in a nice area of town and scouted the shops to see if they were potentially any good for xmas shopping
My new bike :-)
Me and Katharine looking particularly cringey on our first day biking to school together. (they were!) On the note of xmas, I am feeling particularly festive and actually downloaded one of those 'sleeps till xmas' app today because I got a bit over excited!
School has been good. I had an observation, which went well. We did loads of baking this week for our end of topic theme day. I was astounded that the children didn't know how to decorate a cupcake. As in, they thought the sweets would just stick without icing or buttercream to stick it (!), so I had to do a quick lesson on that so the cakes actually stayed decorated! We also had 2 parent consultation evenings, on consecutive evenings, which were of course completely exhausting. I did get a fair few cakes and boxes of chocolates mind. My favourite gift was from one of the Mum's who owns a restaurant and it was a gift bag consisting of expensive salt, olive oil and those straws with chocolate balls in that turn the milk chocolatey when you drink through them (I think Nesquik make them in England). Random, but brilliant! Today we had a training event where all of the different international schools in Korea come together. We
had to get a bus from school at 7am (delightful) and, well, I have nothing more to say about it really except that I had a slice of Papa John's pizza and a really nice burrito (although slightly too much rice in it).
Have I done anything else?!?!?..... ooooh yes! I went to see my friend Bruce play in his band. He is a saxophone player and it was really good! It was an Oktoberfest event and I paid some money and got free beer and unlimited german sausage. Unfortunately it was a school night so I couldn't take full advantage of the free beer, but I did take advantage of the sausage! The only slight disappointment of that entire evening was that the 'roast potatoes' were actually mushrooms!
Anyway, on that note I need to go and make that omelette. I'm starving!
Lots of love,
Claire xxxx
P.S. Sorry about the randomness of the photos but I literally took no photos in the last 3 weeks on my camera so I dug these off my iphone so you could at least look at something.
