What happens when Australian beef meets a forward thinking Korean?
You get South Koreaʼs #1 Premium Burger Diner!
April 1999, the first of twenty-four Kraze Burgers opened their doors to the people of Seoul in the ritzy area of Apujeong-gu. The first menu consisted of Burgers, Pasta, Rice, Salads and Steak. Their “Mad love” for premium burgers, affection for their customers needs and dedicated hard work by their employees set Kraze apart from the competition.
Quality, service and customer satisfaction has been their focus since opening their first diner set in a unique, trendy, dining experience because of this they have expanded international with diners in Hong Kong, Macao China, Singapore and Washington D.C.
Walking out of the darkened COEX Mall hallway the fluorescent lighting ripped through our corneas. Grabbing the only available table we set our bags down as our eyes adjusted to the light. The wall I faced had a Roy Lichtenstein-esque mural stretching across the thirty-foot wall. Smiling, I picked up the menu flipping through it happy to see English beneath every description.
This being our first occasion with Kraze Burger we went all out ordering a plate of chili cheese fries (6,400 won/$5.85),
K. Onion
Burger patty, lettuce, tomato, onion ring, bacon, cheese, mayo and Kraze secret sauce The Matiz (8,600 won/$7.75), The Maximum (8,800 won/$7.93) and two bottles of Caffriʼs beer (3,500 won/$3.15). Looking around the entire place sparkled with cleanliness not a bit of dust or a spot of food splatter anywhere to be disgusted by. Our server was friendly with her broken English and smiled at the two of us each time she came to our table. Caffriʼs in hand we toasted our quenching of thirst. The décor was perfect retro-meets modern with the cherry red vinyl chairs, white formica table tops and monochromatic checkered floor. Each short order chef dressed and pressed in their shirts, pants and aprons smiled with delight as they flipped, tossed, cooked, pulled, prepped and served their way through each order.
Arriving on our table less than ten-minutes after ordering a mound of chili cheese fries covered in chopped onions and a blend of cheese sat before us. Stabbing a couple of fries, spinning them through the cheese and Texas Chili before stuffing fork into mouth. The cheese danced across the taste buds but the usual kick from Texas Chili didnʼt satisfy thus, we doused our plate with Tabasco. Half way into the fries our Burgers arrived.
The waitress set the Matiz, in front of me itʼs wheat sourdough bun sandwiching the 100% Australian beef patty, grilled onions, marinated in “special Kraze BBQ” sauce, American cheese, bacon, pickles, tomato, and lettuce. Dropping the fork onto the napkin lifting the burger the first bite amazed me. The sauce drizzled out the side of the burger, a crunchy or two later I realized the pickles were whole, not sliced. Smiling the burger went down one bite, two bites, three. As I slowly devoured a half of burger I asked to taste the Maximum burger Shauna had ordered. The Maximum burger included all the same as the Matiz except it had a Hot and Spicy sauce exploded instantly in the mouth. A revelation came over while slowly chewing the Maximum burger; itʼs sauce needed to meet the production of their Texas Chili. Where are the comment cards? Either way we were satisfied with the meal, we paid our tab of 30,800 won ($27.76) and departed the diner.
