The Norovirus results are in, the quarantine is over, and we can all go back to work. I had Monday & Tuesday off from work so I went to the Olympic Park to do some fun stuff.
Monday, Feb. 12 I got a ticket to the Figure Skating Team event (10:00 am) so I went with my Philippines roommate, Razzel. She actually only lived with us 6 days, she has relocated her job to be a timer at the Ski Jump, and moved to Wonju University dormitory. The move to another University doesn't make sense because she will have a longer bus ride from there to the Ski Jump. But my roommates & I are happy because the 3 of us are really compatible and we weren't so compatible with her.
The Figure Skating team event had men, women, & pairs dancing events. Results: Canada with gold, Olympic Athletes from Russia with Silver, & USA with bronze. This was the first event I went to. I liked watching the pairs dancing the best.
After the event I walked around the Olympic Park collecting pins. In some of the buildings you take a picture, # it on Facebook,
and get a pin or coupon or something. In the KIA display I played the curling. You have to push a small KIA car exactly on the red spot to get a car. You have 2 tries: my first try was terrible but I nailed it on the 2nd try. I got a small KIA car and took a photo at the snowboard display.
I was very disappointed with North Face. They give you a passport & you collect stamps (one stamp was to # your photo in one of their tents), then you stand in line to get a North Face pin. Shame on North Face because they only give out 80 pins and if you are number 81 in line you are out of luck.
Tuesday, Feb. 13 I went to the pairs figure skating practice session. They group them in groups of four. I found it interesting that while a pair is practicing their routine with their music, the other skaters are on the ice skating around. It seems distracting to the pair that is doing their routine but there were no collisions so I guess this is the way it's done. I liked
the French pair the best. Can't wait to see who wins.
I spent more time in the Olympic Park trying out cultural things, I got a car from Hyundai for the # on FB. I did a contest for kt and I won a snowglobe. There were only 5 in the box, and I was #6 in line. The guy in front of me failed so it was up to me. You put your hands on this motion sensor and watched the screen. You had to grab a ball and move it to a spot and drop it in the container and do this 4 times in 1 1/2 minutes. I did it & won a snow globe!
That evening I went to the Speed Skating event, 1500m. The Olympic Park is beautiful at night with all the lights. The audience was heavily Dutch with orange everywhere. I sat next to two sweet older Korean men. We spoke in sign language & few words of English & Korean (I only know a few Korean words at this point - I need to try harder to learn). Shani Davis had a great run until the last lap and he
Zamboni driver
We met her in the restaurant the night before. slowed down so much. I think he came in 18th. The Dutch took gold and silver, and a Korean bronze.
