Sunday - a great day to kick back and do some housekeeping. Washing was top of the list for us, Kala and Shane. After a late breakfast we decided to regroup about 11.30am and venture into the small Korean streets to find a laundromat. Shane and Kala had researched this on the web and had a map marked with the location we needed to find. So off we went - laundry and washing powder stuffed into our soft-sided cooler bag and plenty of water on board for the expected long hot walk to the target location. Well, we walked and looked and looked and walked and asked and followed helpful Korean locals only to discover it was closed on Sunday! It was a laugh and a half as at one point Shane was gesturing to a local that we need to wash dirty clothes ad tugged on his tee-shirt while indicating a washing motion. Ah ha! The local nodded and marched off indicating us to follow - which we eagerly did - only to find she was leading us to a
bath house! She thought we wanted to wash our bodies! We found this hilarious. All this had taken over an hour and so we were ready to give up and have a drink. Stopping by a corner store we all grabbed a drink - beers and an alcopop for Jen and we wandered back towards the hotel. On the way we came across an Apple promotional stand outside a large department store. This is where we found the long-awaited sleeve for the netbook. It was on sale for 15000W - half the price of what they are in NZ. Shaun also picked up a more solid cover for the iTouch - more protection from falling objects! On arrival back at the hotel we had to become our own laundromat - so out with the plastic rubbish bin, a bit of boiled water, washing powder and away we go ..... a bit of slush around in the bin, a lot of rinsing and done - just an hour or so of elbow grease and our lovely washing was hanging up in the window of the 14th floor of the Novotel for half of Daegu to admire! Time for a drink and
a wander around the shops. Around the immediate vicinity there are great shops, restaurants, nightlife etc. The streets are lit up at night and it is truly a colourful, clean, modern city - we love it! We looked around for a bit and then found a great restaurant for dinner. It was a lounge type place with all the trendy set dining there - chain smoking though - so that wasn't so great. We dined on excellent Korean food and sipped on Blue Hawaii cocktails (cheaper than wine!) Then off back to the hotel for a few more drinks in the room and some skyping to the other side of the world before bed.
