On Sunday my tour group reached its final destination of Singapore. Our guide Hannah made sure we all had a taxi or knew where we were going and then legged it off to the airport back to Bangkok so she could start all over again, ouf!
My hostel was lovely, not a bunk bed or cockcroach inside, and wonderful air conditioning!
After a bit of lunch and a chat to the girl in my room, I headed off to Sim Lim, a big building that mostly just sold electronics. I thought I'd look for a camera, but in the end I got pretty scared by Chinese men doing a very hard sell, one in particular who absolutely laid the guilt on to get me to buy a camera - I'm not one for falling to peer pressure!
In the afternoon it absolutely bucketed it down with rain, so I tried to wait for the rain to stop, I just ended up eating lots of food while I was waiting, whoops. It rained for a good couple of hours so I gave up in the end and walked back in the rain. I spent the evening with a few
people from my room.
The next day - my full day in Singapore, was perhaps not amazingly spent. People from my room were like "Let's go to this Sentosa thing," I listened as I thought it would be nice to have some company. It was indeed nice to be with some people, but the place was a bit random!
We headed off to catch a cable car over to Sentosa, which is a sort of an island theme park, but not actually a very good one... We went to a museum thing about how Singapore came about - I wanted to do something vaguely educational rather than sit on a man made beach! I also popped along to see their big statue of a merlion but then I decided it was time to get out!
In the afternoon I went wandering round Singapore with a girl from my room, we had a good look at the CBD, the theatre and Raffles - got a feel for the city. I was looking for the other merlion statue which is on the water, however when I found it, it was covered in scaffolding and cloth so I was a
bit ticked off!
I was so afraid it was going to chuck it down again that I got back to my hostel fairly early in the afternoon, in the end it didn't rain for ages, so I felt pretty silly!
In the evening I met up with fellow Lemming Mike and he took me for some rather random but tasty Singapore food. We managed to fit in one beer afterwards but he was so knackered from arriving from the UK that morning!
The following day I headed back up to Bangkok, I spend a bit of time shopping, eating, chatting to Germans and picking up a dress I had had made. I'd put on so much weight in Malaysia that my dress didn't actually fit anymore - whoops! Time for some slimming.
And that concludes my blog, 3 weeks after I got back!
