Hit and Run, six countries, one month, two girls!
We had one month of school for winter break. A whole month to explore Asia. After looking at a lot of different routes and working out the best financially Val and I decided to do Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, The Philippines, Taiwan and Japan.
Our stay in the Philippines was on Palawan Island and near the city of Puerto Princesa. We take a Tuk-Tuk to our hotel and had a rest, we had had an over night flight and neither of us slept well. A friend of mine was staying in the city but was leaving later that day, I decided to go to see him while Val was sleeping. We spent some time together walking through the city before he caught his bus. I could see that there wasn't much in the city so I took some food back with me so Val and I wouldn't have to go out again. I didn't have much to choose from so McDonald's and Donuts it was.
Val and I had planned to go to Sabunk and see the underground river today. We caught the bus to Sabunk but when we went
to ask about the pass for the river we are told we can't do it today. We found out there's a Monkey Trail so we start to do that instead. We followed the directions we had been given, walking along the beach and then along a dirt path. We paid our entrance fee and followed the path until we came to a river. The boat men refused to take us anywhere so we had to turn around - luckily the entrance fee wasn't a lot.
We went back to the beach and spent time on the hammocks and the swing.
I had already decided that I wanted my last day in the Philippines, and before going to Taiwan and Japan where the weather was going to be colder, to be spent on the beach. Val want to a butterfly farm and looked around Porta Princesa.
I caught a bus at 6:10 in the morning to go and visit my friend who was now in Port Barton. Once we got to Port Barton I set off to find Laurent's hotel. Once I got there I found a note saying he had gone to White Beach. I didn't know
where that was so I asked someone who said it's about an hour walk or 10 minutes by boat. I took the boat option and ended up at the beach before Laurent did. We spent the day in the sea and lying on the hammocks. We walked back in time for me to get my bus back.
By the time I got back to Porta Princesa I was hungry so took a Tuk-Tuk in to the town centre. It was dark by now and I didn't see the mud by the side of the road so I stepped straight in to it whilst getting on the Tuk-Tuk. My flip flop got stuck and my foot went right in the mud. My legs were covered with mud from my knees down. The Tuk-Tuk driver took me to a carwash to hose me down. It wasn't brilliant but it got rid of some of the mud.
While I was in Port Barton my dress had got socking wet and I couldn't wear it back. I had borrowed one of Laurent's T-shirts. So I was wearing just a t-shirt, with my bikini underneath and my legs covered in mud and one
usually green flip flop now brown. When I walked back in to our room, Val just laughed at me and I don't blame her I was a site!!
