When we woke up in the morning, we found out that it’s quite windy and the current was quite high as well. We made breakfast, strolled at the island and attempted on climbing the highest peak—and succeeded !.The beach was so peaceful, there is nothing else you want to do, but just RELAX . But, since we still have places to go—so we got to say goodbye to this beautiful island. The lodge owner recommended us to go to the island’s extention, FOR FREE. That, off course we gracefully accepted.
We loaded our stuff and headed for the island’s extension. And my jaw dropped when i saw this beautiful place. It’s even more serene than the banana island itself. And as usual, I was looking for a place up high for some attempts on good pictures. THIS IS A PERFECT beach ! Highly recommended !
However, our happy faces soon turned into tremor. On our way back to Coron , we were hit by a strong current. We spend the next 45 minutes clinging to the sides of the boat and wishing that the islands were nearer. Thank goodness, we were ok. However, my camera got wet and all
Twin Lagoon
Great rest place :) my pictures afterwards suddenly turned blur.
Our next stop , Twin Lagoon ! Its water is as clear as Barracuda Lake, but the limestones here looks better than any other places we have visited. Its rock formation is lovely to look at, makes me want to try wall climbing (oh well, kinda.. ). It’s one of the great visits in Coron ! A must see . And yes, there is still an entrance fee of 100 pesos each .
After twin lagoon, we headed back to Coron town for some lunch and had some rest for a while. We finally took a REAL bath ( hee hee hee) and headed out to look for some food. After some searching, we went to Serenita restaurant where we could get a view of mount Tapyas, as well as the fishing villages. The food was good, I ate pineaple rice. Yummy!
After that delicous meal, we decided to check out the cross at the top of Tapyas mountain. It was said to be a 700 plus steps going up ! The view were breathtaking, so it was not quite a big deal climbing up. Plus, Mount Tapyas entrance is for
Sunset
Sunset @ Tapyas free ! YEHEYYY !!
And what’s better than ending the day with relaxing our tired feet at Maquinit hotsprings? Yupe, we did just that ! We hired a tricyle for 500 pesos ( going back and forth) for the 6 of us. Entrance fee to Maquinit hotspring is 100 pesos. If you like hot water like I do, you’ll love this ! However, if you don’t, you will definitely feel HOT because the temperature could reach up to 40 degrees. Yikes !
Then, we went to a local carinderia and I bought Chiksilog for dinner ( fried chicken + rice + egg). We went to our rooms and packed stuff for our way back home to Manila the next day.
Notes and Suggestions : 1. If you do come across to the banana island extension, please do spare some food. There is an island dog here, called Melky who is left here to “guard” the island. I wonder how many times he came across food. He is so friendly, please do me a favor on this
2. Always wear your life vest when you are travelling by boat. Better safe, than sorry ( even
The cross
At the top of Mt. Tapyas if it does not look that good at pictures ! :P )
3. Maybe by now you are wondering, what’s with all the entrance fees ! The reality is, each island is private owned—so for every visit to every site, there will be an entrance fee.
4. Do you know that you can actually owned an Island in Coron for as low as 2 million pesos? Yupe, that’s true.
5. Food in Coron is quite expensive for a backpacker. The cheapest meal i saw is a around 80-100 pesos. Prepare for more food money !
