The food !
I ate noodles, siomay and veggies ! LOVE it ! Another good friend showed up early in the morning, and the three of us decided to go to the “real Manila”. We picked the Divisoria area with the thought of buying goodies for my friends back in Indonesia.
From my friend’s house we took a trycycle ride for 7 pesos each, then rode an FX going to Lawton ( it’s a Tamaraw/Kijang with a signboard “Lawton” ) which costs 40 pesos. From Lawton, we rode another jeep to divisoria, which costs another 7 pesos.
Divisoria is definitely a bargain place for goodies such as clothes, bags, accessories and stuff. However, this was not what i had in mind. I need something “Filipino” (jeepneys, fans, etc) and it’s quite hard to find here.
So we just walked around and enjoyed the whole experience. Sorry, I had no pictures of Divisoria because i really don’t think it is quite save to take out my camera and it will be such a hassle to go thru the crowd while taking pictures.
Finally we arrived at 168 , got a place to eat and I could only say the siomay was TO DIE FOR ! Not to mention the camote que
Camote Que !
It's delicious ! as well. I think this area is really known for food tripping so i definitely did not ate at the wrong place. Total spending for the feast was around 300 pesos for 3 persons.
And out of nowhere, suddenly we spotted cute bags with with the Philippine map printed on it, and the best part was it costs 50 pesos each ! Bought lots of it, finally relieved that i have something to bring back to Indonesia.
Afterwards, we rode a jeepney to Recto (still 7 pesos) where i intended to buy some books. Recto is known as an area for cheap 2nd hand books. I was pretty much happy with the goodies i got. I bought 3 hard covered books for 200 pesos ! What a steal !
While doing that, my 2 other friends went to the groceries to buy some snacks for our trip tomorrow. I went home alone and got some idea to pass by my old school. I rode the jeep ( from Recto to Taft) and got down at Vito Cruz ( I think i gave the wrong fare to the driver, i gave 7 pesos but i believe it was
Bags !
Bags that i bought for friends :) more than that 😞 ). I saw my old school at a glimpse and rode an FX back to Sucat ( costs 30 pesos) . Then i rode a tricycle to my friend’s house ( for 16 pesos). When i arrived, the girls were packing so i joined them and we were busy picking up stuff to bring. Had dinner and, off we went to sleep !
Notes and Suggestions :
1. I would not say that the “real Manila” area is dangerous, but it is recommended to stay alert and be careful
2. It is better to bring a Filipino friend who is quite familiar with the area when shopping. They know the prices better and they will take you out from those confusing streets.
3. Act like you know the place. Please don’t act confused. You will be such an easy target
4. Finding halal food is HARD. Most Filipinos are pork eaters, so if you are not sure of it, find a fast food chain that caters to chicken dishes ( such as KFC)
