Nepal- Kathmandu - CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!!

Well I am here....Nepal. Home of the largest mountain in the world...and it just happens to also be the home of the best street food i have ever come across....not that any of you fools know about this; but MOMO'S are the best. I dont really know how to describe them. They are cooked in a bamboo steamer kind of like dumplings (dim sum), they look like Chinese dumplings...kind of. Basically they are some sort of dough wrapped around some kind of meat (i think)...i have learned that it is better not to ask to many questions, especially if it tastes good and comes from the street. So you get these things by the dozen...and there are pretty big, come with all sorts of sauces...and are served in bowls made from dried leaves (very enviormentaly conscious). So that is what I have been eating lately....like all the time.

My trip to Nepal could not have been shorter or easier. It seems so strange to me that you can get on a plane and be in Nepal in 3 hours...even though I was in Thailand which is somewhat close...Nepal is a place that somehow feels like it should take 12 hours to get to no matter where you come from.

So I have just been wandering around the city for the past couple of days....trying to set up a trek into the Himilian (sp?) mountains. I think that I am going to pass up everest and head to the Annapurna region. The overall trek is supposed to be better, and it has been cloudy lately. I'd hate to go on a 14 day trek with the sole purpose being to see everest..and then miss out on it because of clouds. Plus, with the trek that I am on I get to see a wide range of different things. Tibeten villiages, mountains, rivers, gorges, glaciers, high passes, and what not. So it should be fun. I'm pretty excited. I actually leave tomorrow and will be with my guide for the next 12 days. I hope we get along...this will be the longest that I have travelled with someone save my time in hawaii with Jennifer and my trip in New Zealand with Tobias....but I'm sure it will be fine.

Well that is it. I have a few pics I want to share with you. But when I get back from the trek...you all better be ready...i'm sure I'll have tons of stories and pics. Maoists...watchout.

p.s. for this leg of the journey I think that I am going to claim to be south african since the american government donated money to nepal to purchase arms to fight the Maoists...or something like that...anyways, the "donation" required from americans is supposed to be pretty high!

ps. for some reason I have seen a lot of travellers sporting the rat tail....just like layman back in the day (i'm serious)
