Toy train
The "Toy train", which covers the 80km. from New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling in about 7 hrs. is also a usual transportation mean for the local school boys We arrived today in Khatmandu after spending two lovely days in Darjeeling. Mountains, clouds far lower than our guest house room, awesome food and teas, plus a slight touch of british heritage make up the picture of this superb site. Arriving in the famous Toy Train (7 hours to cover 80 km), we left the dark clouds of the polluted Calcutta and entered a natural paradise.
This morning we arrived in Khatmandu by plane, which was not at all expected, but the only alternative was a 22 hour bus, stopping 6 hours at night in the middle of nowhere to avoid entering the maoist attacks area. So far this is a charming place, much more touristic than Darjeeling and many parts of India, but very well maintained in its traditional ambience. We’ll try to spend no more than three days here and head for Lhasa in Tibet, which I have the feeling will be the ride of this trip.
The trip altogether is awfully rich in experiences and teachings, unfortunately it’s rather easier living the than telling them.
