This seems to be coming a habit! The day starts late, followed by a trot over to the breakfast pavilion on the sunset side of the island where today we indulged in a freshly made waffle topped with nutella, a pastry and fresh fruit. Our waffle chef brought us the waffles and then stayed to chat to us about his life working here. He is from Sri Lanka and has been here nearly 5 years. He told us about the Tsunami and how it hit this island. The resort was hit by two waves, the first one was large enough to swamp the island before retreating and then he said the water around the island drew out to over ½ a mile away before the second wave hit covering the island in over 4 foot of water. Apparently there wasn’t too much damage caused and no lives were lost although he said two of his friends back in Sri Lanka were killed in the Tsunami there.
Next to the breakfast pavilion is the Coconut Spa where we wandered to next. The spa is staffed by Balinese ladies and made to feel like your in Bali with attention to their little
god offerings and typical Balinese artefacts. We were asked to leave our shoes at the door and then were shown around the spa area. Two jacuzzi’s beckoned, one hot water and the other cold and a beautiful lounge area, treatment areas and a nice little shop where we bought a few sarongs. We made our appointments for the first of our pampering sessions. Our first treatments are courtesy of Gail’s dad who gave us some US dollars spending money to spoil ourselves. So Gail will be having the “Complete Facial” which is listed as a facial where you enjoy deep cleansing, followed by exfoliation facial steam and a nourishing mask applied by massaging. A hand and feet massage is also included and this all lasts for an hour and 30 minutes. I decided to have the “Coconut Spa Signature Massage” which was created exclusively for the spa, which includes a relaxing four massages. The first massage is long strokes and deep skin massage followed by Shiatsu, and then twenty minutes of warm stone massage finishing with 30 minutes of reflexology. Sounds great! Roll on Friday!!!
Returning to our bungalow we avoided the midday sun and sorted through all the
pictures before heading out for a snorkel. Where we went today was just in front of our bungalow but there was an absence of living coral. Most of the sea bed was covered with dead broken coral, but occasionally we would come across a single clump of coral with a few fish around. We will possibly be joining the snorkeling trip tomorrow afternoon, as they will be taking us to great snorkeling sites dependent on the time of day and weather. The skipper always decides at the time where he will take us.
After dinner we came back and spent an hour or so lying under the moon beams looking up at the starry sky. Thousands of stars were out and Gail spotted a shooting star flying though the heavens. It was a lovely balmy temperature and the waves could have lulled us to a sleep, in fact it would be nice to sleep out one night providing it didn’t rain or that ghost crabs didn’t attack us during the night! As we laid there on our plastic loungers, we could see in the distance lightening brightening up the few clouds in the night sky. Truly beautiful! Before coming
in for the evening we took a stroll down to the waters edge and walked around in the shallows hoping that no man preying beast was lying in wait!
