Well we have left another country, and made our way into another. This time we have crossed the border into Malaysia and to be honest i am glad of it ! Its not that i didnt like southern Thailand, but i just got sick of it and i was happy to move on.
REWIND ! anyway so when i last spoke we were in Krabi ...... well to be honest there was not much at all to do there, except watch some dvd's as we were staying in the town which was well away from the beach, but either way we were sick of the beach at this stage, and even getting in the water seemed like we were just going through the motions. I guess we kinda lost a little steam, which i suppose is enivitable with travelling. So we came up with a plan, we loked at our little map and headed for the island of Ko Lanta, which proved to be relatively hassel free with the ferries and all. So we stayed on a cove area which is one of the few open during the monsoon season, as the waters are rough as, and its well
off peak season. So we chilled out there (which is not what we really wanted to do). Anyway, one really positive thing about the monsoon season in thailand is the sea really acts up. we spent 2 days on the beach in the cove in the water playing with the waves. it was safe, but occasionally you got wiped out by a 8-10 foot wave (hence i again lost my shades). it was fun but again to be honest it was a bit boring. So right then after that we went to Trang (one night) and then on to Had Yai (2 nghts).
When we got the train outa Thailand, we couldnt help but notice that security was well a bit full on. there were guys walkin up the train, armed to the teeth, assault rifles etc., and at every little $hit bag train stop there was a mini military prescence, guys with assault rifles, pistols and grenade launchers. we thought is was a bit full on, but assumed it was the norm. When we got into Malysia, we heard the news that aparently there had been some shootings and bombings between different muslim groups. we had been un
aware but hey at least we didnt stress about nothing that affected us.
SO MALYSIA .........
Well we stopped off in a place about an hour or so over the border called Kota Bharu. Its a big enough place with not much in it at all. BUt we stayed in a backpackers which kinda felt like home, I met the boss of the place earlier that day as he was crossing the border too, and he said he would do me a good deal (which he did air-con double room for $8 AUS). Anyway we stayed over night and decided to make our way to the Perentian Islands (supposeed to be the best). We stayed on the small one, on the long beach, which turned out to be absoluetly beautiful. the watrer is some of the best i have seen in the world, and the beach the same.
Anyway, the snorkelling was amazing, it was as good if not better than off phi phi in thailand. I suppose the best part was when me and Larry were snorkelling off a reef, away from where everyone else was and we came across a shoal of bump-head fish. At
first we were swimming, and we saw one of them (and it was massive, about the body size of 1.0 x 0.6 METERS). and to be honest it scared the shit outa me at first i was like holy shit and then behind it there were about 10-15 more. Its mouth was bigger than me own which made me nervous, but soon i felt safe enough. We were swimming after the shoal, and they moved away from us slowly.
We got some underwater pics too showing us swimming down below with the coral, the weater was slightly overcast so it was'nt the clearest.
So what else did we do ..... we ate lots of bbq seafood, and done nothing much else. we saw some pretty big monitor lizards on the island when we were walking from one side to the other.
after we were all islanded out we made our way back to the mainland, and went back up to Kota bharu. We were feeling a bit traveled out and felt like we needed a rest. Also we had a few rashes and cuts etc. that needed to heal before we went to the jungle, so we
stayed in the hostel we ere at before for 3 nights. It felt really homely and we kinda liked it alot.
So next stop the jungle ................
