With our Langkawi tour over, we headed back to Kish's uncle's house where we had stayed previously. We had an 8 hour coach journey from Kuala Perlis to Kuala Lumpur in one of the lushest coaches I have ever seen where each seat practically reclined into a bed, which was nice seeing as the journey went from 9pm to 5am! So we slept the whole way to KL and then slept some more back at the house we were staying at in Kota Kemuning. After some well deserved rest we headed out to check out a shopping centre called Sunway Pyramid which was a b s o l u t e l y huge! It had 5 floors full of shops, 10 cinema screens and an archery range, easy to get lost in but with enough to do to not need to find your way out again. So we decided to go see Prince of Persia costing us half the price of a UK ticket with popcorn and drink included.
Kish's uncle Cathi came to pick us up later to take us home but instead he wanted us to taste the nightlife in Malaysia. We visited two Malay bars with Cathi
and a few of his work friends where no individual drinks were ordered, instead large jugs of Carlesburg kept appearing to be shared between all of us and instead of pouring it ourselves a young thai bar maid assigned to your table would refill your glass and proceed to pretty much chat you up. Sometimes they wouldn't even wait til your glass was empty and lead to one of Cathi's friends giving us a long, drunken speech about life. What I could just about get from it was that we should never miss an opportunity and experience all you can. I'll drink to that.
I decided to use the next day as a chance to be lazy and stayed in bed til 1, this being the first real rest since I had arrived in Malaysia. I spent the whole day chilling out and it was only until the evening when Kish's aunt Yogez took us and her 3 daughters to a local night market, selling all kind of fruit, vegetables and fresh fish which the family use when making home meals. I must have sampled 6 or 7 very exotic fruits which I have never seen or heard of
before and my god were they tasty! Far from your average green apple.
Today it was time for a visit to Kuala Lumpur to see the sites and stuff. The city is really quite cool because of the huge mix of different styles of building. You can find absolutely huge skyscrapers sitting next to small wooden buildings with a patch of grass with a palm tree in front of it. Hardly your standard trip to Oxford Street. We visited the Petronas Towers which was also very impressive, I have never seen a building quite like it, there is even a high class shopping at the base called KLCC, not really a place for travelers to be shopping but still cool. Unfortunately the trip up to the sky bridge between the towers was shut for the day so instead we headed to KL Tower which had a 360degree view over KL and is one of the tallest towers in the world, made even better due to the fact it is on top of a steep hill!
While checking the sites from the tower we noticed the Batu Caves which we proceeded to visit. The cave itself is strange because its
basically a huge lump of partly hollow limestone rock, sticking out of the ground where the area around it is completely flat. The Hindu statues and temple inside are also very impressive and all tell different stories of events in the religions history as well as portraying the gods they worship.
So it was the 11th of June and the start to the World Cup. We were travelling with Cathi and Yogez down the coast to a place called Kuantan where we would more yet more of Kish's family and take a two day trip out to a sort of resort called a Kelong, which I will explain later. But before that we spent a night in another of Kish's uncles houses within Kuantan and we had timed our journey just about perfectly to coincide with the opening game of the World Cup between South Africa and Mexico before getting some rest for an early 7am start the next day.
